"I know there are people who don't read fiction at all, and I find it hard to understand how they can bear to be inside the same head all the time. .... I find it so soothing to have another mind I can just hop into by opening a book."

Are you familiar with this feeling? Of being able to hop out of your own head and into another mind, when reading a book?

"...Gide often spoke about a phenomenon he called "dedoublement." By this he meant the splitting of the self into two: a self who acts, speaks, goes about in the world and has experiences, and a self who observes all this going on. When I first read about this I remember feeling that tingle you get when you recognize something of yourself in a piece of writing. But I imagine it's fairly common to sense oneself divided in this fashion."

Mmmmmmmm... Is it? Have you ever sensed such a phenomenon? Having a self who lives...? And a self who observes...? I'd love to know if this is familiar to anyone.

I can't imagine a world with out books,it was the only thing that kept me from doing all those important things around the house, now I have to share that time with visiting all the beautiful and interesting blogs. Have wonderful weekend!!!
Neither can I imagine a life without books. My step-father only read non-fiction books. When the author made a reference to something in a fiction book, "Dad" would have to ask us about it. He still would not change his mind. He wouldn't even read the classics. Oh, what he missed.
I almost always feel like I'm two different people.
Love your pink rose background. So soothing to the eye, and it make me smile. :)
Hope you are doing well. Hugs
When I used to read a lot of books, they were all fiction and I remember literally losing myself in the story and feeling myself be part of it all. I don't read books much anymore, now I love to read blogs when I have the time:-) xoxo
Reading is my passion. I especially love to lose myself in fairy tales.

Hi Auntie!
I love to read, especially fiction! There is nothing better than a good book, a good cup of tea and a comfy chair... :0)
I have had that feeling of being so engrossed in a book that when the phone rang, or the dog barked, I almost jumped out of my skin! It was like I had to shocked back into reality; and then it took a bit to get me focused on real life! I feel sorry for those who don't like read . . . oh, what they are missing!
hugs,
Barb
I am aware of the self who lives and the one who observes, but I am one person who can do many, many things. So I guess the answer is, "no." Interesting to think about, though.
I can't imagine a life without books. I've always been able to lose myself and become someone else when I'm reading.
And yes to the second question - I'm also a Gemini!
Yes.YES. YES!!! I can so relate! If I did not have books I would be so lonely. I love to just go and see and BE in the books I read!
What a wonderful post!!!!
I don't read nearly as much now that blogging has taken over my life. :)
No..I don't have two ME'S. I am one.
