Have you ever heard the term "Halcyon Days"? I had known it was something GOOD. But not what it really means. Well Mary on her "Moontides" blog, explained! And you can read the whole myth, there.
~-~-~-~-~
Anyway, "Halcyon Days" refers to 7 days prior and 7 days following the Winter Solstice. It's a sea-faring myth, telling of 2 weeks period of calm weather. At this time of year.
~-~-~-~-~
So, the "12 Days Of Christmas" are very well known, from Dec. 25th to Jan. 6th. And now, there are 14 other *sweet days*, at this time of year. Around the Winter Solstice or Yule. ~-~-~-~-~ Can't say they are *working* around here today though. ,-) It's rainy/nasty out, in my neck of the woods.
~-~-~-~-~
Apologies to the "Fly Lady", but... I admit. I don't keep my kitchen sink sparkling each and every day. -blushing- -looking ashamed- ,-) But Wed. was the day! Hit those sinks, and toilet bowl with bleach, Bab-O, Comet, Soft Scrub, etc. Oh the lovely sparkle, to reward me. :-))))
~-~-~-~-~
But pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease! Shushhhhhhhhhh... Don't tell the "Fly Lady", on me!!!!
~-~-~-~-~
Since it isn't conducive to running around doing outside errands today, I should continue with my housekeeping... Sweeping and vacuuming are badly needed!!!! My work is laid out for me. :-)))) And "Uncle A." can set up his train. ,-))))

-grin- "Uncle A." is so-into-old-fashioned-toys this Christmas. He's making Gabriel Michael some hand made wooden toys, of course. Gabe is not even 2 yet, so he'll still like them. Sadly, the older kids want electronics. We usually get them something, from their Santa-List. But he is *rebelling* this year!!! LOL. He's getting the other 2 Grandsons, something without batteries. -chuckle-
~-~-~-~-~
And... We got "Uncle A." his own toy train set, to go around/under our little Christmas Tree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -giggles- He was looking at it so longingly in the store, but we left, because the boys don't play with the one he got them, years ago. ~-~-~-~-~ Getting back into the car, I said; "Do you want it, yourself?" And he said; "Yes!" So we went back in and got it. -giggles- This will be the Christmas that he got his *first* toy train set, in years and years and years. Not fancy... Just plastic... But it brings back memories. ~-~-~-~-~ To me, that's a good gift. :-) Just *stuff,* I know. But *stuff* which brings back happy memories. :-) I don't mind getting that kind of *stuff*. :-)

Everyone, young or old, should have some kind of toy for Christmas! That's what I think. Good for Uncle A! And 'Bab-o'! The Goatmother hasn't thought about that in years! Do they still make it? Electronics. Oy. A few years back some friends brought their 5 and 7 year olds to visit. They went to the beach. They threw rocks in the water for 2 or 3 minutes and then went and sat on a log and played with their video games. Oy. Something wrong with that, if you ask me!
What a beautiful baby! He seems to be enjoying his cup. lol. Good that he got his own train set. Don't work too hard cleaning. Take care!
Warm Wishes,
Loretta xoxo
What a joy for him to get a toy train set...it sounds like a making for a very Merry Christmas at your house...so sweet of you. Blessing Trish
I am so glad he said YES! Now that's the kind of thing I was talking about a few days ago...do you ever deny yourself something because...you fill in the blank. Yes, so delighted for the YES.
Could that grandbaby of yours get any cuter? I think not. And those curls...darling!
Oh, he's adorable Auntie!
Hubby will enjoy that train set!!! How FUN that kind of stuff can be...
Enjoy your cleaning!

I'm so glad uncle went back and got his train. It made me smile.
The sun shining on Gabriel's curls is so beautiful, makes me want to put my face in them and inhale the warmth:-) He truly is adorable and I'm not surprised that he has such a sunny disposition!!
Good for Uncle A for getting that train set for himself, I can just picture him setting it up and feeling like a kid again:-) At the auctions I go to, they frequently have old train sets for sale and you should see the grown men going after them!!
I had never heard of Halcyon Days before so thank you for explaining what it is! It's been raining here for the last 3 days, no snow at all on the ground. Very dark and dreary. I'm starting to get worried that we won't have a white Christmas this year!!! xoxo
Great post!! Love seeing and hearing what you are up to! And FINALLY I figured out how to Follow you so you turn up on my feed!!! I have been going direct and for a long while I did not see a Follow button! Probably my eyes!
It is raining here, too! AND I MUST get out! I can NOT find the big bag that holds all my Christmas tissue wrapping paper! It is a BIG bag and our house is HIGHLY occupied so I have no idea where it is or WHAT I did with it!
My sister was born on Dec. 21st......have you ever read the book - 'Winter Solstice' by Rosamund Pilcher? It is SO good!!
I had heard of Halycon Days, but I didn't know what it was! Great post....everything is adorable!!!!
SOOOO glad that you are back! I just so enjoy your blog,it is very uplifting for me AND I enjoy your great photos!
Hi Auntie!
I love learning from you! Halycon Days is something I had heard, but didn't know anything about it! So many interesting stories about the Winter Solstice, thank you for sharing one of them!
Gabe is so cute - I can't believe how fast he is growing! He will always cherish the handmade gifts from grandpa... :0)
Hugs,
Barb
wonderful post and what a cutie pie!!
First off....that sweet little Gabe is such a doll!!! And your photos are more than perfect. The lighting and the composition of each and every one of his pics is priceless!!
Love your window.
And yes, as I type, the cold front moving in over our city is bringing with it some blustery winds right now and promising some rainfall.
PS...I won't rat on you to Fly Lady....promise!!!
Yes, VIRGINIA is my Friday post...if you can, come on over for a visit. And, have a terrific day.
Well, nix the idea of the invitation I just posted in your comments. I've been playing catch-up from all the others who visited with me yesterday and now trying to visit those who have dropped by this morning. LOL
Didn't realize you had stopped by already. You're way ahead of me.
And even the 2nd time around...Gabe is still so very precious. :o)
ahhhh, that is the sweetest baby boy...his golden curls.....sigh
I had a Christmas train for years when our grands were little. They loved it and played with it until it finally wore out. Like you, the memories are dear to me.
Have a good day and I just WISH we were having the same kind of weather you are having.:)
Hi Auntie! You were so right! It WAS the moon! I'm fixed again - one day it was working, the next, it wouldn't at all, and then it started working again! Nasty old blogger.
I grinned real big when I saw that little curly head - Gabe is such a cutie! I hope his mama don't get that hair cut for a long time!
And I'm so glad that you two went back in and got the train! Sometimes, we just gotta be kids again and I hope you'll show us Uncle A's train running (hopefully, with him sitting crosslegged under the tree running it!)
Hi Auntie...Thanks for stopping by my blog via Thisisme! She's a sweetheart. I love the pictures of the little one here. The curls are adorable. Nothing like kids to make you smile is there?!
What a charming way you have with words an pics.. delightful as always, Auntie.
Warm dry hugs,
Pam i am :)
