On my yesterday's post...

Today, I'll switch gears and talk a bit, about books.

"Uncle A." recently finished "I Am Half-Sick of Shadows," by Alan Bradley.   This is the latest in a series, about the 11 year old sleuth, Flavia de Luce.  A hoot.   If you haven't read any of them, I suggest you begin with...

"The Sweetness At The Bottom of The Pie."
I quote from a review;
"It is the summer of 1950–and at the once-grand mansion of Buckshaw, young Flavia de Luce, an aspiring chemist with a passion for poison, is intrigued by a series of inexplicable events: A dead bird is found on the doorstep, a postage stamp bizarrely pinned to its beak. Then, hours later, Flavia finds a ..."

I finished "The Unbecoming Of Mara Dyer," but not so happily.  It's a very confusing book, and a bit of a *wild* YA book.  At times, I was so intrigued to know "what happened?"  and "what comes next?" ...  That I kept at it.  But in the end, I don't look forward to the next in the Series.  So, -sigh- I guess it was innnnnnnnteresting, but not something I'd recommend.  Even to those adults who like YA novels.  ~~~  And yes, there are more than just myself.  -grin-  Although I may be the *Oldest* such fan.  ,-)

.
Soon I hope to begin re-reading "The Hollow" (Hollow Trilogy) by Jessica Verday.
I LOVED these books, and recommend them.  Not the 'run-of-the-mill' YA books.
Not the 'run of the mill' loopy teen-age-heroine.  NOT!

Of course, I have other library books, on the table, waiting to be read.

"Rules Of Civility" by Amor Towles, set in 1938 NYC society.
"An elegant and captivating debut novel about an irresistible young woman with an uncommon sense of purpose...tell the story of a watershed year in the life of an uncompromising twenty-five-year-old....Armed with little more than a formidable intellect, a bracing wit, and her own brand of cool nerve..."
~
"Neverwhere" by Neil Gaiman
"Richard Mayhew is a young man with a good heart and an ordinary life, which is changed forever when he stops to help a girl he finds bleeding on a London sidewalk.  His small act of kindness propels him into a world he never dreamed existed."
~
"Witchlanders" by Lena Coakley
"Witchlandsers is a novel that crackles with magic and storytelling and vibrates with the music of words."
~
Have you Dear Reader, been reading some great books?  Please share.
Most everyone loves a possible book suggestion.  :-)

Thanks for sharing these books, I was planning to go to the library before James went back to work but, it got pushed back and forgotten so, I think I'll be going to the bookstore online for some interesting reads. (I buy used books that are cheap and share with my sister). Hope you and Mr are doing well...take good care and please know, James and I hold you dear! Hugs!

Oooo! Books! The Goatmother and Goatfather's passion (hence why most of the furniture in the house is bookshelves :)). The Goatmother loves Lynsay Sands. Great historical romances and a wonderful Vampire/Romance series about the Argeneau family. Then there are all the Amelia Peabody mysteries by Elizabeth Peters about a spunky English Egyptologist and her husband. These are great fun too! Another great historical romance is the Wallflower series by Lisa Kleypas - and again fun! The Goatmother likes to laugh. :) As they say, 'So many books, so little time'! Thank you for the recommendations! Keep them coming! :)

Hi Auntie!

It's so good to back in blogland! I have had fun looking at all your old posts - especially the last one, I love the old soda fountain, it's beautiful. What a lovely old drug store, and how wonderful it is that your sons keep it running!

Great books, I can't wait to try some of them! I am still reading, "The Huger Games". They are very interesting to say the least. I'm anxious for the movie to come out, to see if it is anything like the books. . .because they are so . . . should I say . . . interesting!

Hugs,
Barb

i read 2 books a week and sometimes more. love to read and the library loves me. i go there every other week. your blog background reminds me of my mother who loved picnics, she had tablecloths like this in red and blue, and when we went on a picnic, they cover the table the ground or sometimes the hood of the 53 ponitac.

Sounds like you'll have good books to read during the winter months:-) I haven't read a book in so long but the other day I came across "The Help" and I was so tempted to buy it but I didn't. Maybe I'll go back and get it, might just get me started into reading books again since I heard it's really a good read!!

This is too funny....as I'm typing this, I'm also watching the tv show Ghost Hunters and right now they're investigating a haunted...LIBRARY! lol Maybe ghosts like to read too! hehe xoxo
