Do you ever look at the 'Location' page, of your 'Site Meter'? The page which tells you, where all the Visitors to your blog, are located...

Do you ever wonder about those people, in all those locations? Did you wonder why they keep returning, to read your blog? Sometimes returning, numerous times, in the course of a few days?

Especially those, who don't seem to comment?
Especially those who live relatively near by?

Now don't get me wrong! I am not one of those bloggers who longs for "flesh meets," as they used to be called.
*Back in the day,* people who got friendly on Mailing Lists (precursor to Blogs) would set up what they called "Flesh Meets." Like if some lived in the Boston area, a meeting spot and time, would be set. And they would get together and really see each other face to face and have a jolly time. Or people in the NYC area, would do the same. Etc. Etc.
Nope, not my wish. I'm not looking for "flesh meets."
But it still intrigues me... People who watch me (via my blog). People who live not too far from me... But stay silent...

To think on this long enough, is to make one consider having a Private Blog.

I have wondered the same thing. EXCEPT I also wonder if these meters are correct. I KNOW some of my readers and I KNOW they don't come over to view my blog a zillion times a day! I wonder if that 'site' gets stuck in the meter sometimes.
Since the recent theft at out house I have wondered if I should be more private. My daughter Amber has a pretty high profile in cyberspace due to her career and etsy shop and this quad pregnancy and all but she is still very selective about certain details - address among other things. For instance in her pictures she 'photo shops' a blur over her house number. Not that that would stop someone from finding it because she does have an etsy business and a writing business.
I don't know. I am always amazed anyone would even want to read my blog other than m family and close friends so perhaps we should be flattered?
If you go private....I want to be included in your list!!
Have a good Wednesday!!
I often wonder about the same thing. I did meet someone on my blog once and we were scheduled to meet in the city, but somehow things kept going awry, she moved away, and never did we meet.
Like Linda, I don't think those meters are correct. There is always a discrepancy between the blogger meter and the one I put on. Also, the meter has said 'no visitors' yet I got a comment. How did that happen?

I used to wonder until I realized how seldom those meters correctly label a town. It is my hope that there is a plan behind that. I also used to think that a meeting would be unpleasant. That has not proven to be true. I have met three bloggers now and with each one it has been a meeting of a kindred spirit.
Did it cool off terribly in your corner today? It so so warm earlier in the week and now is back to being seasonably cool again.
I wonder how accurate Site Meter is. My son reads my blog and has commented on a post and when I've looked at Site Meter his location hasn't even shown up and I know his address. So I don't really pay a lot of attention to Site Meter. Once in a while, I'll check to see how many are looking and it usually irks me to see that I've had over 80 lookers and only maybe 20 or less comments, so I think I'm better off not looking at it!
Enjoy your day!
i have only looked at the site meter once, because everyone was talking about it. i don't go there at all. to me it is flattering that they come and view and i have some that i veiw every day because i love their photos and i don't comment. it is impossible to comment on all the blogs, i have the ones that comment and i comment and it takes hours. some people just love viewing. and a lot of them can't read English. to me the site is just to let us know all parts of the world look. it flatters me that they look.
I visit a lot of blogs but don't comment on many because of many reasons:
(1) It would take all of my day to comment on every one.
(2) Perhaps that blog already has 20 or 30 comments and mine would be irrelevant and/or would take all of the bloggers day to read them all.
(3) Perhaps I have nothing relevant to say.
(4) Perhaps I'm having a bad/sad/ melancholy day and just need to read
(5) Perhaps I disagree with what's being said but (as my Mama used to say) "If you've nothing good to say, don't say anything"
I have 300+ followers, but on my best of days, I've only ever had 18 comments. It's okay. My blog is an exercise in self-indulgence mostly; and the fact that people read it and/or comment is extremely gratifying in itself for me.
Please don't go private!
I don't really think about it!! I often think about how my followers found me and why they come back!!
I adore blogging, lots of wonderful people. Unlike message boards, I find with blogging what you see is what you get. Lots of love and support!!!
I too don't think the meters are correct all the time.
I do wonder at times why people would want to read my blog and also why so many people never comment, but don't really care that much. I'm happy for the people that do comment and these are the people who I consider my friends.
I like meeting blogger friends in person. I've met a few and it was been great!! I feel a special bond with them.
I hope to meet up with more some time.
Sounds like my sister in law. Just watches me with no comments. Oh well, if their lives are so shallow they live precariously through others, I feel sorry for them.
If your blog became private I would hope you would invite the crazy weido.....aka.....Me.......Jo-Anne...
to be part of it..........lol
I have never checked out those meters I know they exist but have never bothered to go and have a look at them........lol
I understand what you are saying..I don't think the meters are right...I have a ton of followers but only so many that comment...
O dear...I don't even know HOW to check this kind of thing, Auntie...I live in a cocoon world on Blogger. I seldom come up for air. I don't know how many look...only how many are on at any certain time and how many comments. Not interested in crunching the numbers.
