♥ Enjoying some 'arm-chair traveling' books....

"Madam, Will You Talk"  by Mary Stewart

"Charity Selbourne is vacationing with her friend and former colleague Louise in the south of France....  When Charity arrives at her plush resort hotel and meets thirteen-year-old David Shelley, she steps into the middle of a dangerous game of murder, revenge and betrayal."

OH MY, does she ever!!!  A heart-stopping chase ensues.  And all the time, Stewart describes the surroundings of the south of France, which her heroine is moving through!  Like a glorious travelogue, described in words, and seen in the reader's mind.

Delightful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am *officially besotted* with the books of Mary Stewart!!!  :-)

Do you happen to remember the old Disney film of "The Moon-Spinners"?  An early Halley Mills film?  I remember loving it.  So I got it out of the library the other day.  It's set on the remote island of Crete (at least it was remote, back when the book was written).

I seem to have a fascination with The Greek Isles, of late.  :-)))))
~~~~~~~~
So I got (out of library) the original book of the same name, by Mary Stewart.  The film took liberties with the original plot, but that's fine.  It's a Mary Stewart, and right now, that's all that matters.  -grin-
Wonder how long this fascination with this one author, will last?  Oh well, I'll enjoy it, while it does last.  Dear Reader, wondering if you too, now and then develop a *run* on the books of a  particular author????  :-)
That's my favorite way to read! When I find an author I like, I read every book he/she has written. Right now, I'm working through Barbara Delinsky and Jan Karon. I used to read a Mary Higgins Clark book every summer. Having been an English teacher, I also like to sample YA lit, but some of those books are a bit too much for adolescents IMHO!!
I have loved the books of Mary Stewart since I was a teenager. She has a wonderful talent for describing natural beauty - and she can also be very funny.
If you liked Moon-Spinners, be sure to read "This Rough Magic". Also set in the Greek Isles (Corfu this time), it's even better than Moon-Spinners, I think.
My all-time favourite Stewart book is "Nine Coaches Waiting" - set in France, it's very exciting, and very very romantic.
Oh gosh, I remember Hayley Mills, but not that movie.
Just wanted to thank you for your reinforcing words this morning. It's a shame that it takes a life threatening illness to make us change our ways.
Hoping you have a wonderful weekend.
Oh, I LOVE that movie/book! So glad to see Mrs. Micawber's other recommendations!
I've never read any of her books, but I will now. Most of the books you like I like as well!
When I read a book by an author I like, I usually go and read all of their books.
I've never seen the Moon Spinners or even heard of it.
I'm here to analyze hearts not discuss books. You are looking for a former time...this Greek isles fascination. =D
Okay, I see where I went wrong...duh.
I don't remeber this movie of Hayley Mills, only the Parent Trap. I've never read Mary Stewart so must look in the library and see what I can find. Winter is good for curling up with a good book, that and doing jigsaws :)
I am guilty of the same thing, "Auntie"!!! I will read as many books as I can find from one author if I love their stories. I also have books from when I was a little girl...Nancy Drew!!! I still love all of her adventures and I have read them many, many times over. I have a big list of favorites, but then I am a "book lover" and I can never have enough books :)
As far as Mary Stewart...I own 5 of her books...
1. The Last Enchantment
2. Thw Wicked Day
3. The Hallow Hills
4. The Crystal Cave
5. Thornhold
Great Reading,
Jan
Thank you, "Auntie," for paying me a visit at Thinking About Home!
About the wall mural...my friend is bringing me the videos in early August, so I am very likely to begin that painting shortly thereafter. All of my encouragers are saying "go for it"...and I think I will!
And about the excuses...I am quite adept at providing myself with excuses to indulge in tasty treats. :D
And about reading the same author...I sure can do that! When I discovered Jamie Langston Turner, I read every single book that she had written.
I haven't read a Mary Stewart book in a long time! Lately, I've not had a chance to do much reading. But I'll be sure to look for a Mary S. book when I'm next at the library. As for reading books by the same author, Gladys Tabor is the first name that popped into my head. After I read the first book, I wanted to search out all of her other books. I've not read them all, but many of them. Have you read any Victoria Holt?
