Letter to Ellen In Oregon...

Dear Ellen In Oregon...  You left the following sweet comment, in my blog...

"I agree with those who find the red gingham announcing that you have a cheerful & cozy blog. I would not change a thing about the light or the print as I see no issues. If someone else doesn't like your set up, then they are free to create their own blog - right? As far as that "Next Blog" button I find it time consuming and the the types of blogs appear t have no topic in common. I have been carrying quilt around because I thought of myself a "Blog Thief". I find a great blog and I go through the bloggers reading list. Sort of lazy, but the best way I have found for locating other good blogs. If you find a group of unique, but kind people, it make sense that you will share a common intrest in each others blog reading list. I just need to make sure I subscribe so the blogger know how many readers they really have. Auntie - your loyal readerS stick with you because of who you are & not because your header is too bright or too dim. If you were to change your blog every time someone whined or complained, your blog would lose its' essence which is YOU!"

So, in reply, I write the following letter to you...  Since I don't have your snail-mail address, it has to be written, on my keyboard.  And sent, via my blog.  But please take this, as if it was a real, pen/paper, old fashioned letter, which arrived in your mail box.  :-)

Dear Ellen in Oregon,
I so wish that you would start a blog.   Your comments show such a wise, sweet, thoughtful, compassionate person.  If only you would share your writing with us, in Pretty Blog Land...
Please...
Please...
Please...

Sadly...most do not write "real pen and ink paper letters" anymore, Auntie. I have always been happy that I can write personal letters to some special people in my life. Knowing that when I receive a card or a letter in the mail that it was held by the person who wrote it to me, is very special to me and brings them closer somehow.

I still love to blog and it is a colder way of communicating with my fellow bloggers than writing, but I care about you all just the same.

Lovely post, Auntie~~~

Hugs,
Jan

Dear Auntie:

I love the gingham background. It reminds me of picnics and summer tablecloths with my gran. And no I never feel a need to explain what I do with my blog ( which isn't very much a lot of the time - limited time and energy)and I don't think you need to either. As to letter writing - I did write very long comments in my Christmas cards, but rarely write letters anymore. Sadly.

Yes, they write them the old-fashioned way and the new-fashioned ways. It's all good. The only thing better about the new-fashioned way is that there is nothing tangible to get rid of. That's the only thing bad about it, too. Very thoughtful note from Ellen.

Auntie, I LOVE writing letters, always have. And yes, now I basically use my word processor rather than hand write... but I still write them and send them by snail mail (my MIL is 94 and says she appreciates them so much).

But its a different world and you have to change with the times. The thought of the Postal Service not delivering mail as often seems sad.

That is a very nice letter from Ellen. I agree with her, it is YOUR blog and you can do with it however you choose! I really like the red gingham, btw. As for letter writing, I can't remember the last time I received or sent a letter by snail mail that wasn't in a Christmas card. I remember when my younger brother was terminally ill and we emailed back and forth. I've sometimes wished for a real letter from him that I could hold in my hand. I guess I'm just being silly and sentimental. Must be my age.
Have a great day!

I like to send little cards with a hand written message once in awhile. I know how nice it is to receive them.

You know me - I love to write an old-fashioned letter:)

I too have followers who have no way of contacting them, it does feel a bit awkward when you'd like to respond to people and have no way of doing so. I like that you wrote your letter here.

Hope that you are enjoying your week!

Do you know that in his life time, Benjamin Franklin was the author of 100s of thousands of documents and correspondence? Did you know that in the last 15 years of Jefferson and John Adams' life they wrote 150 letters to each other? Even Ronald Reagan wrote 10,000 letters in his life time.

I think the computer is a marvelous thing. I can almost instantly talk to my mother 6 thousand miles away anytime night or day. You cant put a price on this. But I regret the passing of the pen, the skill that accompanied its use, and the physicality of something of me to you. Its a true loss in our modern times.

So, start a blog! Because in the final analysis, its your thoughts that count and they are invaluable to us!

Ellen would have an automatic 'Following' - that's for sure. But there's nothing wrong with being a reader only. We still benefit from her wisdom. A blogger has to have the 'blogger bug' or a compulsion to document I think. It shouldn't be a duty or a burden.

I like your blog the way it is and the headers you use are fine. If I don't like a header oh well thats okay but don't see a need to tell you. I enjoy reading what you have to say.
I agree Ellen in Oregon does need to start a blog of her own.
