since it cost 74,000 a week, i say shut it down.... that is an obscene amount of money... Americans are spoiled rotten and always have to find something to complain about. I have lived my whole life without seeing it so what is the big deal.

I guess I am not good at keeping up with the news! WHY have they cancelled tours? I don't understand....why they would do that!

I was not aware of this. I would need to know the reasons behind the change in the policy in order to give an opinion. I need to research this further :)

I copy from a comment, left after the above article...

We can afford three calligraphers at $207,000. We can afford campaign swings in AF1 at $181,000 per hour, not including staffing. We can afford a full time White House chef at$100,000. We can afford $4,000,000 Hawiian vacations. We can afford 85 fully decorated real Christmas trees for the White House.

We cannot afford self guided tours of the house the Obamas are borrowing.

Explain it to me please."

And...quoting from Fox News:
Florida golf outing Obama took with Tiger Woods at $1 million. He also cited press reports saying 341 federal workers could have been spared furloughs if Obama had stayed home.

"The president's travel expenses alone, for the golfing outing with Tiger Woods, would pay for a year of White House visits," Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer said Thursday. "So I suggest that perhaps he curtail the travel."

I'll try to restrain myself from really saying what I think!! To put it politely, I think the prez is pouting because the Repubs didn't cave (yet) into all of his demands.

I also agree with most of what is said by the others. Let them cut out some of the wasteful spending. Yeah, like that's gonna happen.

We have a president who enjoys being punitive when there is absolutely zero reason for it. The thing that fries me most is the number of criminals who have been released.

sad. i will keep it clean. but i do believe things are a bit screwy around the government - don't ya think. let the kids in. sorry that house is not owned by the president it is the US's home. being an american citizen we all own a part. so whenever we wish to go, we should be allowed to. the president just lives there for the time he's in office. what's the big deal? - let the kiddie-poohs in. please. YAY, Auntie, for posting this.
I am still too mad about it all to post much of a comment.
He is just throwing a hissy fit because we, Republicans, didn't bow down and cave and he is making me so damn mad that, if I could afford a ticket to Washington, I would picket the White House and if I got thrown in jail, I wouldn't even care..
grrrrrrrrrr
I can't even believe he had the nerve to close tours...how DARE he !!

I'm not an American, but I truly believe that anything that belongs to or is held in trust for a nation should be available to that nation.

Mind you, not being an American there's a lot that goes on in the USA that makes little sense to me ... what's with all the hoo-ha just now surrounding women's reproductive health rights?

haha my that is a rant in itself. But yeah stupid, it would maybe make sense if they were cutting out everything. But a million dollar golf trip, pffft right, idiots.

I have loved my trips to the White House and consider it mine, as all Americans should. This is such an obvious political ploy I hope everyone sees through it. It ticks me off.

What I want to know is whether all those reporters get to fly for free on Air Force One?

Seems a shame about the tours.

Sorry, Auntie...I used to get upset while trying to figure out what goes on in the minds of Republicans and Democrats. I no longer talk politics...it isn't worth raising my blood-pressure higher than it is.

Hugs~~~
