Weekend... and why???

Another gathering, before another HS dance.

An old framed newspaper photo...  The 2 men in the middle are "Uncle A.'s" grandfather (his 'Pop')  and Pres. F.D.R.  Grandfather has white hair, and has his hand on Pres. Roosevelt's shoulder.  President is wearing his usual hat.   ~~~~    His grandfather was Mayor of a near-by small city, for years and years and years.  That is why, this old, old, old picture of him, greeting the Pres.

A random picture, of a salad.  Which I thought looked pretty.  :-)  It consists of 3 different salad greens, pieces of orange, my G/F Bagel Chips broken up (to make G/F Croutons), Honey Roasted Peanuts, and Newman's Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing.

On Saturday, we went to the local Farmer's Market, as usual.  In the winter, it is held in the gym of a middle school.   There, we got some food from as-close-to-home, as possible.  Like my Goat Cheese from a farm, a little to the east, and Honey from a place a little to the south, and Apples from just about 10 minutes to the east...  Eating LocalSlow Food.

Then we went to the Healthy Eating grocery store.  Where I got canned Garbanzo Beans, in safe cans.  Safe cans means, NOT in cans with WHITE interiors.   We got a bit of area grown beef...  Which did not come from the huge industrial production of meat (chicken, beef, and pork)...

I know.  You probably don't care.  Or don't WANT to KNOW...  Or just throw up your hands and think "Why bother?"...

WHY not???

Why in G*d's name, should anyone keep putting pesticides and meat/chicken/pork-fed-antibiotics and etc., into our bodies?????  Even in our 70's???!!!???  No, we won't be eating perfectly.  Nor will this add years to our life, as we are too old now

And please don't CRY COST!  How much money do you piddle-away, on *stuff,* all the time?!?  Cans of soda...  Coffee on the run...  Items from "thrifting"...  Those earrings that you just HAD to buy...  Etc.  People don't consider the COST of those things.  Why do they so easily CRY COST, when it comes, to the food they eat???????????????????????

sorry i have to scream COST. we got some apples last week & the hubby about died at the cost. he even though of returning due to the cost they were like 3 or 4 $ a lb. i ate all 3 of them we got just to make him feel ok about it & they were disgusting. no taste, wish we would have known that & would have never bought them. i find it very hard to eat healthy. even though we try to do our best. i have had to give a lot since i don't work. & i am trying to do without even more. working on it. i will admit i do splurge every once in a while. but not like we use to. i wonder about folks that make even less than we do. & we don't have kids??! how do they feed their families healthy. with fruits & veggies. i think something needs to be done. what? hell if i know??! but something. guess you could move to a warmer climate & grow all fruits & veggies??! i will say we don't eat as much meat any more - due to the cost. but the steak we had this weekend (a splurge) was freakin' delicious!! i am so a meat eater. so good. you do what you can. you keep the faith & keep going. what else can you do? right?!? ( :

have a great week Auntie. hope you are feel chipper. & your boo boo is all better. ha. ha!! you are too funny.

The cost of a healthy diet is atrocious. It cost me about $50 a week just for fruit and veggies. Hoping your finger feels better.

Have to agree with the others the cost is nuts, but that is how they rig it, so you'll buy their polluted crap.

We support purchasing organic and local foods, even at the price we pay. Research wins out on this one, in my opinion. Love that salad!

It always bothers me how healthy eating is promotes yet the heatly food is so expensive that people on the lower end of the socioeconomic spectrum can't afford it!

Pretty dresses for the dancing girls. Ah, those were the good old days! And the old photo of G'father and FDR is a treasure, for sure.

I have been eating a lot of salad lately. Love a good salad! I put lots of good veggies in mine and a sprinkling of shredded cheese on top.

Have a wonderful day!

While the cost does seem higher to eat better, it's really so sad that it does....how can companies charge less for 'junk food' that takes WAY more work to process etc?? I'll never understand it. Good for you Auntie for buying locally and more healthily (if that's a word hee hee)

Looks as if Grandpa was going to hit FDR. Ha!

Thank you for explaining about the white interior. I have been hearing rumblings, but wasn't sure. I decided that I'd be making our beans the old-fashioned way from now on.

We were just discussing our menu plans for the day......after eating a TON of good food out in the country over the weekend - we are having SALAD for dinner. We get fresh eggs and fruits and veggies from LD's son who lives in the country and has the most wonderful gardens!!

Auntie, We need to be putting out our own gardens, like our g.parents did. I remember my parents having gardens a few years. It sure helped with the grocery budget. xo,Susie

Is your finger better? I do not pay much attention to cost of food. If I want it I get it. I cut corners in other places. The newspaper photo is a real family treasure and the girls getting together for the dance are so pretty. Such a fun time in their lives. To look pretty and dream.
