Another misty, moisty morning...

Wed. dawns another gray morning, but I do have the windows open, and can hear bird song.  :-)
~~~
The man from the Security Co. came on Mon.  Lots of parts were basically worn out.  And he replaced them.  We've had this Security System for more than 12 years.  So guess one should call for checks on things, perhaps after 10 years...  This "stuff-worn-out" thing, happened with the cable too.
How did we exist, before A/C?  I saw that question posed, and I wonder it, myself.
Actually, I do remember summer days, when I could not do a thing!  It was just too hot/humid to move.  And it was awful.  And I was younger then, too!!!!!!!
What I wonder is how people carried on, in the South, way-back-then???  The rich could sit around, and have servants do everything.  But what about the servants?  And the people who did not have them, and had to keep their own lives running, themselves?  How did they manage...?
Do you think, that my changing my Blog Look, from all the references to "What To Do When It's Hot, Hot, Hot"....   Will change my weather pattern?  -grin-  I doubt it.  If only it were that easy, hu?
  Went out the patio door, and noticed "BK" on her porch, next door.  She was cleaning her front paws and looked sooooooooooooo cute.   I ran back inside to get my camera, to take another pic, for Sandra~~~  When I got back, she had ceased cleaning her paws.  -pout-
No amount of cajoling by me, would convince her to wash her paws again.  In fact, she lay down and turned the other way, to watch something going on, on her porch.
Hehhhhh...  So much for my convincing abilities.  ,-)
Cone Flowers are coming into their own, now...  But you can still see the drops of rain, on the leaves.  At least these flowers are a bit stronger, and can hold up better, to rain, rain, rain.  So far anyway...
Read my 40th book of the year.  Who could resist that cover art????  Not I!  :-)    To read more about this book, please click here......  And go to my book reviews blog.
We are running the AC this morning because of humidity levels and not heat. I have often wondered the same thing...how did we/they manage? I do know that we acclimated. The tree next door is coming down today and so I'll have more blog fodder...sigh...thank goodness, blogging is not always about the exciting things.
I have often wondered what we did without air conditioning. I have become quite spoiled by temperature control, but I am grateful for it every single summer day!
Love your kitty photos! Cats sure do have minds of their own, don't they? :D
I just wish that we had central air:)
I hate having to stay confined to "certain rooms."
Your blog doesn't fit on my screen any more - I have to scroll left to right to read it all...
Tropical storm headed our way. We are already soaked here, and more on the way. It is what it is. I am thankful for shelter and electricity. At least we can stay dry and cool through this weather situation.
Lovely photos on your blog. Those cone flowers are beautiful!
I've been asking myself the same question about the AC. I just can't remember how it was back when I was growing up. I do know we had lots of trees and no tall buildings so we must have had a breeze.
Well, of course, we were air conditionerLESS most of my young life.
Lots of fans..big ice blocks, in tubs with fans behind them....lots of open windows...trips to the watermelon gardens...
one doesn't miss what one has never had, I guess.
O, and long trips in hot cars, way before cars had a/c. MISERY !!
Auntie, When I read Misty Moisty Morning....I wondered if you knew that child's poem. I used to say it to my children. Your flowers look good. Oh I would rather live a life without AC...but I can not. We used to survive with just fans when my kids were young...as for my siblings and parents we just opened windows. Sit in the shade, things like that. xoxo,Susie
I do believe that it is hotter now as compared to my Summers in Michigan as a child. Your neighbor kityy recognizes your camera...LOL...I do believe they are camera shy. I hope you do not get any of the storms that are out and about your way.
My plants are loving the humidity - which, thank God, broke today. We had 70s and a lovely DRY northwest breeze. It was wonderful!
I always wonder how women managed in the 1800s, with all the extra clothing they wore back then. You'd think the humidity would have killed them.
Oh, but I do remember muggy hot humid days without air conditioning growing up in New Orleans in the 40's and 50's (think we got air-conditioning when daddy built us a new house in 1954). But my memories aren't bad... we had an attic fan and I remember mama putting us down for our naps in front of a big black iron revolving fan. It felt wonderful. Again... we didn't know A/C so we didn't miss it.
I'm soooo glad we have a/c! I'd wilt without it. Love your coneflowers. They are really doing well here, too. I don't know why it took me so long to learn to appreciate them! I had a long day, so I better quick yakking and move on. See you tomorrow!
