We took advantage of a beautiful day, and rode around, and took photos of houses, decorated for Halloween. I especially like the ones which are doing it in a selective way, this year. Not just all scary-scary-scary. But decorating with a flair. :-)

I saw this house (pictured above and below) first, and fell in love with what they did and how they did it. :-)

The house is kinda' basic-gray and white. They went with a purple-wine-etc. theme, for the Mums and the Mum pots and especially, for the kind of wispy purple drapes, on both sides of the porch. I just love, love, love these wispy purple drapes!

There are spiders and etc., but not tooooooooooooooo heavy on the black. And a couple of little pumpkins, lighten the mood of the black spiders. Coooooool...

This is more on the scary side. Not quite as cute (to me) as the others. But they did do a lot of work on decorating. And *should* be patted-on-the-back for that work. :-)
I don't care for their particular fence, but it does call attention to the Halloween decorations, when you drive down their street. It makes a kind of a frame. :-)

So the natural question which you Dear Reader, want to ask... "What of my outside decorations, for the Season"? Wellllllllllllllllllll, other than a small pumpkin amid still-blooming summer flowers and gold Mums on the doorstep, I don't have any this year. Yes, I'm looking properly *ashamed.* -giggles-
I thought of asking "Uncle A." to make me a sign on wood, to hang on the front door.... With a silhouette of a nice Witch in black, on a white board, and the words
"The Witch Is In."
"The Witch Is In."
But the more I considered it, the less it sounded like a good idea. -sigh- Who knows what *Weird-O* might take umbrage, and egg the house or something. Or worse... -sigh-

Believe it or not, you can get the sign above, from Shaker Workshops...

"O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
Tomorrow's wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
The crows above the forest call;
Tomorrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow.
Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know.
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;
One from our trees, one far away."
- Robert Frost, October

I wish they decorated around here. I miss it.

I wouldn't mind living in that first house. Looks small and cute, even without the decorations.
I don't decorate for Halloween. I just have my fall wreath hanging on the front door.
Hi Auntie!
I love Practical Magic!
The houses are so beautiful! I don't do a lot of Halloween decorating, my father died on Halloween and it just seems weird to me to decorate on that day . . . but I do love to decorate for Fall!
Love the Robert Frost poem!
Hugs,
Barb
What a sweet little cottage that first one is...love it! People decorate for the season in the most tacky of ways around here. Ugh. Why isn't a simple mum and a pumpkin good enough?
You'd like the frame I saw today with the same expression you ended with an a little spot for a 3x5 photo.
Love Robert Frost, Pixie!
I love that first little cottage just cuz it's so cute, but I DO LOVE the purple wispy drapes, too. I've alwys wished my front porch was such that I could do that. Looks so southern, and so romantic and so, so, carefree or something silly...
Thanks for taking such cute pictures! I'm not doing Halloween decor - just fall. We don't get any trick-or-treaters on our little country road. I miss that!
Oh what fun. We don't have any houses decorated that elaborately. More fall than Halloween.
Just watched Practical Magic this week while Mr Op was away archery hunting.
Enjoy your weekend!

Oh, these are wonderful decorations. I live in New England and wherever you look there are wonderful homes all decked out for Halloween. Practical Magic is wonderful.
Have a lovely day. The fog has rolled in today, bringing with it a bit of chill in the air. Halloween is just around the corners.

Those houses are beautiful. The child in me loves Halloween decorations - tacky, cute, beautiful fall flowers, whatever. (I have none up, tho.) Love the sign. Too bad people take offense. For Halloween it is perfect.
