"Thanksgiving Day, a function which originated in New England two or three centuries ago when those people recognized that they really had something to be thankful for -- annually, not oftener -- if they had succeeded in exterminating their neighbors, the Indians, during the previous twelve months instead of getting exterminated by their neighbors, the Indians.
Thanksgiving Day became a habit, for the reason that in the course of time, as the years drifted on, it was perceived that the exterminating had ceased to be mutual and was all on the white man's side, consequently on the Lord's side; hence it was proper to thank the Lord for it and extend the usual annual compliments."

What I find funny is that turkey wasn't even part of the first Thanksgiving feasts! Whoever started the turkey tradition I'm sure is well disliked by the turkeys of this world! hehe Mark Twain certainly did have an unusual take on what Thanksgiving is all about. We Canadians celebrate it in October since it's the Harvest season and we're thankful for the food that we can put on our table:-) Also, to be able to share it with our family and friends. xoxo
Twain is a pip and you are, too! =D
Now that is a new slant on things. LOL!!! To me, Thanksgiving is time to be thankful for what we have and to share it with family.

My My My! Now that's certainly a new take on Thanksgiving! And I always liked Twain! Well, I'll continue to believe it's just a time for being thankful for what we've been blessed with - be it food, our livelihood AND most importantly - those we love!
