"Pop" and our beautiful oldest Granddaughter Kate, making the *famous* "Newman's Creamed Potatoes" which go with every Family Holiday Meal. They are kind-of a *heart-attack-in-a-serving-bowl*, with all the butter and cream. (Eeeeeeeeeek!) But Holiday Meals are not that often. :-)
"Newman's Creamed Potatoes" is a recipe from a famous old (and now gone) Newman's Lake House and Restaurant. From the "high time" of the Victorian, Turn-Of-The-Century, and Ragtime era, in our old city. And naturally, its name was Newman's Lake House, it was out near the Lake. :-)
It was one of a number of such places... "Piping Rock," "The Brook," "Riley's"... In their hey-day, they were restaurants-gambling casinos-bars-night clubs. (Sadly, all gone now)

Irene and Vernon Castle were an example of people appearing at these night clubs. (They were the most famous ballroom dancers of their day).

Pardon me, for my digression into the History of my City. :-) To me, it's quite delightful.

I enjoyed learning more about the history of your community. I thought we'd be discussing Paul Newman's recipe or something. Is there any cream cheese in this recipe? Wish that I could see the Castles dance...wonder if there's any old video. Oh! I see that you've got the recipe there...I'll just check it out. Have a happy weekend. (I tried to be good. That's a lie. I tried to be a little good yesterday. I still feel tired today. Obviously, I overdid it.)
I really enjoyed reading about the Castles...sad story in the end. Wonder if Pat at Mille Fiori Favoriti has ever visited their grave.
Is the recipe supposed to link? It's not for me. Wah. I like heart attacks in a bowl.
No...
No recipe given... (Newman's Creamed Potatoes)
I do not want to contribute to your collection of "Heart Attack In A Bowl" recipes. -grin- I'm sure we all have, more than enough of them. :-)
Gentle hugs,

Paul Newman was the first thing that came to my mind, as well. Enjoyed the history of your little town. And gosh,I'd totally forgotten about the Castles. Thanks for the memories....but sure do wish I had the recipe.
