After I paid for something in a store, the clerk said; "Merry Christmas." And I was so pleased, to hear a clerk say; "Merry Christmas," that I told her, I was pleased. And this gutsy lady said; "And I don't care if I get in trouble."
~-~
You know, how the *Politically Correct Police* tell us we have to say; "Happy Holidays." And how the *Politically Correct Police* say there can not be a Nativity Scene or Menorah or etc., in public places. You know... Those sooooooo *PC* people. Ugh...
~-~
As I told that nice clerk, I am saying "Merry Christmas," all over the place! Because of those icky-sticky-PC-people and their *Rules.* And I'm not even a Christian. (So, *what* am I, you wonder? See below.) But it's *no skin off my nose* to say "Merry Christmas," or "Happy Hanukkah" or "Happy Yule". Or to see a Nativity Scene or a Menorah or etc., in public. Duhhhhhhhhhhhh...
~-~
And this nice lady clerk thanked me profusely. Not that she needed to. I'm doing it, on my own. "Auntie sezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz." ,-)
~-~
So, do you think that the *PC* people have gone too far? That their antics have caused a quiet backlash? -hehhhhhhhh- Good, if it has! Let's shout it from the rooftops! MERRY CHRISTMAS! :-)
~-~-~-~-~
If you care to read an awful lot of Joseph Campbell, you will come to a better understanding of my view. :-)))) I doubt you will take the time to do that. ,-) It's work! It's not just "dropping out of Catholicism." It's work. It took me years and years of reading and thinking, to "get here." :-)
I begun my study/quest in 2000. And here I am...... And here I am happy.

I might be called an Agnostic Theist. But it's a bit more complex, than just a "label". In my view, as a human, I can not fathom a Creator. So I can't say-for-certain that One exists. But that's ok. I don't need to. I just behold the marvelous Universe, which has been created, and go on my way.If you care to read an awful lot of Joseph Campbell, you will come to a better understanding of my view. :-)))) I doubt you will take the time to do that. ,-) It's work! "Did you ever wonder about the Victorian version of sugarplums dancing around every one's head in "A Visit From St. Nicholas"? Sugarplums were exotic sweetmeats, a combination of fruit and nuts, traditionally available only during the holidays."
~~"Mrs. Sharp's Traditions"
~-~-~-~-~
For Mrs. Sharp's Victorian version, you will need:
1 lb. chopped figs
1 lb. chopped dates
1 lb. chopped raisins
1 lb. chopped currants
1 lb. blanched almonds, chopped finely
1/2 lb. chopped walnuts
1/2 lb. chopped pecans
1 lb. chopped, unsalted, shelled pistachio nuts
1/2 lb. shredded coconut
1/2 lb. crystallized ginger
1 orange (grated rind & juice)
1 lemon (grated rind & juice)
2 tables. good sherry
1 oz. orange or peach bandy
Granulated sugar
.
Do all that chopping of dried fruit, nuts. Process ingredients coconut through brandy, in food processor. Combine dried fruit & nuts and add juice, sherry and brandy mixture. Mix. Form small balls and roll them in granulated sugar. Store covered, one week in refrigerator to blend flavors.
.
Did I do this??????? NO!!! -grin- But betcha' they are mahhhhvelous. :-)

Fascinating post. I had no idea that you were a "Merry Christmaser." This post reminds me that I have failed to wish my Jewish readers a Happy Hanukkah. I do have one to my knowledge. That recipe sounds yummy and expensive. I've not had any sort of fruitcake in years and years.
I've never paid attention to the POLITICALLY correct much. I say "Merry Christmas", I believe in GOD with all my heart, soul and spirit, I think it's terrible "they" are trying so hard to take HIM away from me, and I love you and your spunk and your determination to live by YOUR rules. I think you are awesome and, hoping not to make you mad at me...or stop loving me, I have to say that GOD LOVES YOU, TOO. So.....there ya go.:)
I have a grand with me this morning...she spent the night and slept with me, all cuddled up beside me, nice and warm, thru the night. We made candy last night and she asked if she could have a piece for breakfast....I said ONLY IF YOU LET ME HAVE ONE, TOO. :))
Have a great day, Auntie..

I was raised Catholic...did the whole school, everyday church thing for years. In the first grade I wanted to be a Nun when I grew up.Hahaaaa...children...Gotta love 'em!
Now I believe there's good in all religions. You have to sift through them all, but the good is there. I believe in God, the Almighty and Jesus...I believe in mankind...his propensity to do good and his kind and loving heart. It's in all of us and it's magical. I guess I sum it all up this way...
I believe as a child does. I have all my life. I want to see the good in man instead of seeing only his shell. I love laughter and puppies and babies...cotton candy and fudge. I can throw a fit one minute and laugh at myself the next...I'd die for my family without a second thought...I love cheese.Hahahaaa....
And all that PC junk? Screw 'em!
MERRY CHRISTMAS AUNTIE!
hughugs
A resounding Merry Christmas to you and your family, Auntie!
I've the entire collection of Joseph Campbell books. I absolutely love him...and Jung. As an ordained Interfaith minister, I believe in the best of all religions and beliefs. I still say 'Merry Christmas'.

A thumbs up for the clerk lady. I bet that is a marvelous cake. I'm with you on this....

Oh don't get me started on the Politically Correctness of whatever. It seems that it's been going at high speed and climbing ever upward. I of course, being the age that I am, find myself just shaking my head at all the rubbish.
And as far as you being what you are, religious or not...it's the person and heart your carry that counts. Have you ever read my sidebar quote? It's there...about Theology.
Now, you've been introduced to me through blogging and I must say I appreciate you and your candor, and your honest and your style!!
...that should be honestY instead of honest. Sometimes I've been known to be the typo queen.
I do and will always say Merry Christmas!!
No need to tell you what i believe - you already know. : )
Hoping not to make you mad, but i pray you could know the Jesus i know!! : )
Ah, the Goatmother is another 'recovering Catholic'. :) I'm with some of your readers...there is good and bad in all religions. We're all saying the same thing, just in different words. But I'm against anything that feels the need to be shoved down someone else's throat - PC OR religion. Merry Christmas here! I'm for simpler - simple is good. It worked before so it can work now. :) And, love Joseph Campbell!
MERRY, MERRY CHRISTMAS Auntie ! (o:
I'm a recovering catholic, but Merry Christmas is the word of the day!!! Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas.
I make sugarplums every year! Mine are best described as 'chocolate butter!' Butter, cocoa, pecans, oatmeal.......
I am NOT making them this year, though! Too many diabetics and NONE of us 'need' the sugar!
Maybe next year......
i just love this post, i read it twice. bravo to you for saying things out loud, it can be difficult to do!!
i have not baked one thing this year, maybe i will get to it tomorrow!!
wishing you a merry christmas and a happy, healthy new year!!
My Christmas wish for you, my friend
Is not a simple one
For I wish you hope and joy and peace
Days filled with warmth and sun
I wish you love and friendship too
Throughout the coming year
Lots of laughter and happiness
To fill your world with cheer
May you count your blessings, one by one
And when totaled by the lot
May you find all you've been given
To be more than what you sought
May your journeys be short, your burdens light
May your spirit never grow old
May all your clouds have silver linings
And your rainbows pots of gold
I wish this all and so much more
May all your dreams come true
May you have a Merry Christmas friend
And a happy New Year, too .. xoxo
Bravo for the store clerk. It seems that "we're" told to be politically correct yet "they" give other free reign in action and words!
Merry Christmas to you and Uncle A!!!
Leann
Funny, I was at the post office yesterday, and I could hear the clerk behind the counter say to the male customer in front of her, "If I want to wish you a Merry Christmas, that is my perogitive, and if someone doesn't like that, they could move to another country." I had to laugh, because she is normally such a soft spoken person, always wearing a smile, but I guess this was a hot button issue with her. Well, I say good for her!
Anyway, I wanted to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and Happy New Year.
Maureen
this post did not pop up on my reader yesterday, i read your today post about this one and thought i did not even see it. i don't say Merry Christmas because i think it sounds silly. but i am a Christian and do believe in God and Jesus Christ as my savior. He has gotten me through a lot of tough times, He does not make them go away, but gives me strength when i call on him. once in a three time roll over wreck, i brought my blood pressure down by repeating this verse. Fear not for I am with you, be not dismayed for I am your god, I will comfort you and strengthen you by the power of my outstretched arm. by the time i said this 3 times, my bp was down and the EMT said you just dropped to normal, what happens and i told her. I do say Merry Christmas in writing, but not out loud.
