♥ Saving cursive, and S.B.

I was so happy to read a recent post, in Susan Branch's blog.  (Link below)  Concerning preservation of cursive writing ability.

♥ ♥ ♥

My handwriting once, was nice.  Not beautiful but nice.  Then over time, it has deteriorated.  My fingers get cramped and my hand gets cramped and I have to stop and shake it out...  Over and over...  This doesn't make writing, very pleasant.   Nor can anyone else read it, easily.

So instead of my kind of flowing hand...  I have tried to change to being quite precise with each letter.  Very plain.  Almost like a kid, just learning to write.  This actually makes it easier for me.  My hand doesn't seem to cramp up so much.

And what do I *practice* on?  :-)  Just the many lists I write to/for myself.  And when writing down what I eat in a day, in a little note book I keep, for that.  And when I write something down in the notebook I always keep on my computer table, beside my iMac.

I figure that if I learn to get comfortable with this new way of writing, I'll have better and more readable handwriting, if I ever want/need to write something more important, than lists.  :-)

Maybe...

It's worth a try anyway...

:-)

my handwriting was nice when I was young....now it's not so great...I get in to big of a hurry when I write...I guess it's because you can type on a key board so fast...that I get impatient when I write by hand...I love hand written notes and cards...so I try to slow down to be more precise..so I don't look like a Dr. or a 2 year old...nice post Auntie..

O, my handwriting has changed, too....I am pretty sure that comes with aging.:(

Have a great Sunday, dear one.

I used to have nice handwriting but now it has gone over the hill like the rest of me.

Hope this a great day for you auntie!

Hi Auntie. I love your new header photo. Is that a painting by Monet I wonder? It looks like his style. You always give us such lovely images to look at. I have to say that I have always loved handwriting. My dad used to sit for hours when I was a little girl, teaching me, and I like to think that my handwriting is nice but, like you, I am noticing it's not quite so good as I'm getting older. :(

Now as I read that post, I thought of you and how much you would appreciate her thoughts. You must particularly love her March calendar page. I do. I think it's my favorite of the year.

The Goatmother's handwriting has gone over that same hill with Beth's. :) She says that's why she learned to type. Hoof prints are a lot easier to make.

I love the old letters I have from my Grandmother and others that show such lovely cursive. It is true it is a dying art and it makes me sad. I remember learning cursive and it was such a source of pride for all of us. We wanted to get a star for the best cursive of the day!

Oh man, my Aunt Minnie had the most beautiful handwriting, even when her hands were crippled. I used to teach cursive to my Third Graders second semester. They couldn't wait to start 'writing' After they graduated grade school, my efforts were out the window They developed their own style. Uggg.

I remember in grammar school how they had us draw circles, over and over again, teaching us to move our whole hand. I still have my penmanship skills, but, alas, little writing is still done. Even at work, everything that was once written is computerized.

Hi Auntie, I am off topic. I wanted to come over and share with you that I had my first GREAT grandchild, Friday.

Good evening, Auntie. Beautiful penmanship is a lost art nowadays. I remember practicing my handwriting til it was perfect in grade school. It's still pretty good, but not as good as it used to be.

Have a good week Auntie!

I do like letters, and I still have pretty good handwriting, though my hand cramps up quickly and I've always preferred typing because I'm so quick with it.

Handwriting at one time was I think an art. I have some of my grandmothers penmanship books from when she learned how to write. Her handwriting was beautiful.

I used to have over 60 penpals and would write long letters to them but that was about 10 years or so ago...I haven't written a letter since then! Of course I still write myself notes and such and so far haven't really noticed anything changed in my handwriting:) I wonder though, if I was to write a long letter now if my hand would cramp up. My mom's handwriting is getting very shaky so I'm sure that just comes from getting older. xoxo
