Susan Branch's Mini Calendar
"Remember Miss Piggy's words
to the wise and "Never eat
more than you can lift." ♥
Btw, her calendar pages are really much more white/bright, than they show up here. My camera and the kitchen over-head lighting, combine to make her calendar look very mellow-ish, yellow-ish, and dark-ish. But.... 'Tis not so!!!!!!! :-)
I'd never have thought of beets or leftover potatoes, for Salad Toppings. But if Susan sezzzzzzzzz so, betcha' they are good! :-)))
And Dear Irma Bomback's quote; "I worry about scientists
discovering that lettuce has been fattening
all along." ♥
Finally got my hands on some MEAD!!! Whoooo-hooooo... Mead is the drink, to celebrate "The Old Ways." And I've wanted it, for ages.
There's my Irish Crystal glass, with some Mead in it. Looks rather like Sauterne. And since it's made from honey, naturally it's sweet! :-) It struck me as sweet, with a hint of apple. Although, it does not contain apple... Wondering........? Perhaps the bees, whose honey was used, have an apple orchard to gather nectar from!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And on the back label.... "...ancient family recipe..." "...special celebratory Mead of old..." "According to legend, Sweet Mead was served to eliminate the bitter taste of battle."
Now!!! That's a drink, with a History. :-))))))))
Started Brad Meltzer's "The Fifth Assassin" last evening.
I've never read any books by him, but we enjoy "Brad Meltzer's Decoded" on the History Ch.
Love all that "digging-into-mysteries-of-history-etc." kind of thing. :-) Do you Dear Reader, enjoy such, also??????????
I also started another book.
So we shall see.... Will one win out? Or will I go on to read both of them? :-)
Obviously, they are very different Fiction Genres...

Now see, I have read this all through and the ONE thing that is on my head is that Erma Bombeck's name is spelled Irma on SB's calendar and I wonder if that is a mistake or an intention. What do you suppose? Ha!
Okay, I do not like anything with blood and gore so if the history goes off into that, I am no longer interested and it USUALLY does. I like a gentle mystery...Miss Marple types. I'm such an old lady.
Oops. Obviously, I thought of something else...the mead. Sounds too sweet for me. I like all my wines to taste like Sierra Mist. If they don't, I'm not interested. In fact, I can just skip the wine and go straight for the SM.
Auntie, you always have such interesting posts and today is no different!
I don't drink so I guess that I'll never try Mead. Love the label and what it says...interesting! The color is lovely and golden...like the honey that's in it.
I always look at what your reading and make myself some notes to check those books whe I go to our public library. As they say, "food for thought."
Hugs,
Jan
I love red beets in my salad - funny but nothing sweet.
Hurray for Mead! Did you get it at a state store?
xo
What a fun eclectic post!
MEAD? I shall have to look for it! Normally I do not drink SWEET wine but I am a big fan of wine blending.
Only Vee would notice the Irma/Erma thing. I had to go back and look!
March FIRST!!! We are out of lockdown over here! Plans to celebrate? Going out to dinner with all four babies! An early dinner to avoid the crowds but this will be the very FIRST outing with the babies other than doctor visits!!!
I used to be able to drink wine, but I seem to be allergic to it now. The last two times I've had it I got deathly sick from it which was years ago now and I'm afraid to try it again.
Your starting March with blog pizzazz.:)
Love salads! Love them!! And I'm happy to see the additional toppings that I can add that I had never thought of. Thank you!!
Love,
J.
Now I know what mead looks like! I have seen it mentioned so many times in historical novels, but didn't know what it was exactly. I only like wine if it's really sweet and sparkly. Guess that's why I love soda so much!
Love Susan Branch calendars, but one of my kids always buys me a Thomas Kinkade calendar at Christmas. I love those, too. But I'm gonna have to get a Susan Branch!
In the reading dept., right now I'm reading a Gladys Taber book and another book on gardening. I seem to gravitate toward that type of reading in the fall and winter.
I'm back. I just read yesterday's post which I had missed. You mentioned Site Meter. Has it been down? Mine isn't working at my blog.
Hooray for March and the coming of spring.
Mary
I tried Mead at an Irish festival it was good... We are going to an Irish festival this weekend will have to try it again
Spice of life food chart looks grand and yep enjoy movies and shows that approach history also in our land.
I love Susan Branch! Her wall calendar keeps us organized.:-)
Never thought you could get it now a days! Neat!!

May have to check out that wine. I prefer a little sweet to my wine.
Now I never thought about putting potato on my salad but beets oh yeah. I love beets on a salad.
Enjoy your book.
