"The Internet is a........"

"The Internet is a surveillance state"  by Bruce Schneir

Excerpt:
"So, we're done. Welcome to a world where Google knows exactly what sort of porn you all like, and more about your interests than your spouse does. Welcome to a world where your cell phone company knows exactly where you are all the time. Welcome to the end of private conversations, because increasingly your conversations are conducted by e-mail, text, or social networking sites.

And welcome to a world where all of this, and everything else that you do or is done on a computer, is saved, correlated, studied, passed around from company to company without your knowledge or consent; and where the government accesses it at will without a warrant.

Welcome to an Internet without privacy, and we've ended up here with hardly a fight."

One has to know that what one types/posts on a public domain is public....

i agree with Jackie - when did you think what you were writing was private? if you wish for something to be private or stay private? don't say it online. keep it to yourself. always & forever. it plain stinks but it is so true. in a perfect world it would be another way??!

Yep this is the unintended consequence of technological advancements...less and less true privacy.

This is why I have only a very simple cell phone that gets turned on only when I travel. No Smart Phone. No apps. Nothing that will track every least last thing I do.

And yes, we surf at our own risk - but surely we all knew that? I figure that if we have nothing to hide we've nothing to fear. I don't like the information-sharing, but I participate with my eyes open. And some things I just keep to myself. :)

About sums it up. Auntie you ought to read a book called the Traveler by John TwelveHawks. It's about living off the grid. The facts about the author himself is quite interesting.

Your post sums it.

For fun you ought to read a book called The Traveler by John TwelveHawks. It's about living off the grid and time traveler(s). It's a scifi sorta but then again not really. It's part of a triology. Even the author is a bit of a mystery. No one has ever seen him. He lives off the grid.

Have a great day!
