BLOGGER  WATCH:

"5 Products That Should Fear Google's Next Killing Spree"

"Google CEO Larry Page is in a pruning mood.  In a "spring cleaning" last week, Google killed five products, most prominently Google Reader, and began phasing out... "

You do remember this, I'm sure.

"If Google sees a beloved, impactful, but less-than-blockbuster product like Reader as something to prune then there's plenty more brush to clear.  Here are five obvious candidates.  I'd hate to see some of these products go, but they seem at risk given Google's current priorities:"

One of the 5 being....

"Blogger: When created by Evan Williams in 1999, seven years before Williams co-founded Twitter, Blogger was bar none the easiest way to create and maintain a blog. But the world has moved on. Rival network Tumblr has social features that vastly outmatch Blogger’s, while WordPress is much easier to customize and has a robust development and design community supporting it. As with Google Groups, the only reason Google may want to keep Blogger around is to preserve the old content and avoid a PR backlash. But Google could easily put a freeze on new blogs and posts."

Btw, I have made a WordPress blog.
Just to learn how to blog on 'WP'.
Just for learning...
Just (for learning) for now, anyway...

I suspected this might happen, which is why I started a mirror blog on wordpress. Got to transfer my tarot course over now.

I have often thought that this doesn't create enough of a money maker for anyone so who knows? It seems likely that they might stop taking new blogs and allow the others to die a natural death. Bloglovin' has taken over for me where Google Reader used to be. It's not working as well, but I only did it to not lose all those blogs I've gathered...nearly 300! Yikes. Anyway, I mostly use my blog roll anyway. You're prepared for any contingency and that's a good thing, Auntie. Thank you for the information.

I will be very very sad if they get rid of Blogger. I suppose I better learn how to navigate Wordpress just incase :)

Thought about this the other day, I bet it will come to pass at each bay so save my blog every week just in case, they give it the death race.

i have thought for a long time they might do away with blogger since it makes them no money. i am hoping when they do that someone will have a new one to export to, just like reader is going and feedly takes over... that is my hope. who knows maybe they will make something better. also blogs are fast becoming a thing of the past with the new twitter, facebook and other social sites taking over. you did good to learn wordpress while you have your blog..

Sandra commented above; "...blogs are fast becoming a thing of the past with the new twitter, facebook and other social sites taking over."

Dear Sandra, I am standing firm! -grin- I refuse to believe that blogs, like in Pretty Blog Land, will die out. I refuse! -grin-

I know what you mean. But see what you mean, as mostly younger people... Younger than the demographic of Pretty Blog Land.

Sure, there are younger people in Pretty Blog Land, and they probably have FB, etc. But, with luck, they won't desert Pretty Blog Land.

I hope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

I tried Wordpress before I came to Blogger. I was just not as happy with it. I will be up a creek if they stop blogger...with 8 blogs to transfer over. Yikes!!!!

Well, rats. If they do away with Blogger, I will probably quit blogging. I don't do well with change and I have heard it is difficult to switch everything over to WordPress. I don't do FB, or Twitter, etc. Too much time is spent blogging. I do hope they don't send Blogger down the road because I enjoy it so much. But, since it isn't making them money.... Sigh.

I'm thinking it might be a good idea to do a backup soon! Thanks for the heads up.

I will just enjoy blogger while it's here and worry about when it's not when I have to. : )

Maybe by then I'll be ready to stop blogging anyway.

Grim stuff ... all we can do is back up our blogs and hope for the best! And appreciate the fact that Blogger is available at all....

Well I hope blogger doesn't go away completely. I never used the reader but did look at it the other day and I can see why people used it. Oh well. I've always used my dashboard to read the blogs. Another site a lot of bloggers are going to is Bloglovin. It' apparently imports everything easily. I haven't checked it out yet. I use FB but not for blogging, I don't and won't tweet and don't use instagram either.
Change sucks. LOL
