"Ten Things" at "Knitsofacto" blog
"A scandal ... Google's redesigned image search, which is making a mockery of copyright. Anyone can now download your images without once visiting your site, thus bypassing the security measures you might have in place, such as copyright notices or disabled right click. And we're not talking thumbnails here, the only limit on the size of these 'stolen' pics is the size of the file you originally uploaded. My advice is to set a limit of 600 x 600 or so pixels, max, and to use discreet watermarks, because if you don't your work is up for grabs"..."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I long ago decided that the photos I put on the World Wide Net, have *Open Season* printed on them. Nasty people can even remove water marks, so why bother with them?
~~~~~~
I don't sell my photography. I don't post recognizable pics of Grands. Except when they are wee ones, and after they grow up. Knowing that all/any photos I put on the World Wide Net, can be confiscated. And PhotoShopped, and used for what ever HORRIBLE PURPOSE, weird people want.
~~~~~~
Do you ever consider this? When putting your family pictures, on your blog? No little "Please Don't Take" button, on your Sidebar, will STOP the BAD GUYS.
I do consider it; however, in this day of digital cameras on everything, people can take your picture at any time and do anything. So, we have to decide that just because the "awful" can happen, we are either going to shut completely down or live normally. Sick people do many things over which normal people have very little control.
my motto is don't post anything i care about. like you i don't sell my photos and most of mine are silly things like pics of a cow on a jar of creamer... nothing is safe on the web, not words or photos...or even information. and even disabling the right click copy doesn't matter, just snip it anyway
There's another way of looking at this. There are plenty of bloggers who make money from advertising on high traffic image oriented sites who are now seeing huge drops in visitor numbers since people can see the image full size in Google search ... no one's clicking on what was previously just a thumbnail to visit the site of origin and see the larger picture. It's not just about the folk who steal images, Google's new system is stealing people's blog traffic.
Great that you're continuing the debate Auntie :)
ugh...i hate all of this but what are you going to do? i don't put anything up if i want it to be secure. snow here!
Wow to the blog traffic, I never thought of that. Stupd friggin google.
As for the pics, yeah, no matter what you try from the little "do not take" below to watermarking them, if someone wants to use it in some deranged way, they will. I put nothing up I don't want seen, so if they take, oh well.
it's a shame that people have to ruin everything...no matter what we do or where we do it...some idiots have to find a way to cause problems for the good honest folks...that is one reason I don't show Hotrods face...and change names...a real shame...
Too many people are just nasty...google,blogger, crazoids. If people are so smart they can take what's not theirs,to make money or trash , why can't they just do something of their own. I say some people work harder getting out of work than if they would just get a job. geez.xo, susie
Good grief, don't those people have anything better to do with their time than steal what's not theirs? I guess there's nothing we can do about it, but it's so not fair. It seems like anytime something good comes along, there will be jerks who have to ruin it for all of us. Grrrrr.
I don't even like to see my photos on Pinterest (usually the barns) with a link back to me. Seems to me the polite thing to do would be to ask permission first.
Ditto in general to what everyone else posted.
I figure if it's "out there" someone will always find a way find a way if they want to.
Blogging is getting to be a real "downer" when it comes to protecting your own material. I am about ready to just quit and call it a day. There are enough real problems in my life...I don't need more!!!
I will have to give this some thought~~~
Hugs, Auntie...thank you for the warning :)
Today everything is up for grabs, even all our personal info. Not too long ago for the fun of it I did a search for myself. Found a place that had both my married and birth name, all the addresses I ever lived at, phone numbers. Then it added, more information required payment. There ought to be a law about that. What about battered women who are hiding from abusive spouses.
Mary
that stinks, what will google do next to us????!?!!?
guess that is why one reason i very rarely show a pic that i have not messed with or done it up a bit before showing you guys.
that is also one reason i will probably never show you my family or hubby. because this is my blog. & i have my permission to show me only. doubt i will share my wedding photos either - they were purchased from a photographer - so that is against her copyright rules. if i shared any it would be ones that some one else took of us. ( :
the fun is always ruined by some one, right? so silly. boo hooo hiss hiss....
Our lives are totally transparent in this day and age. I am not going to worry about it...I want to enjoy blogging and I refuse to put the foot I have out of the box back in.
Not to mention how Google keeps files on us...they thumb their noses at the fourth amendment!
O, Auntie...I don't care if someone wants to use my photos. There's too many things to worry about in blogging so I say just enjoy what you do and if someone wants a photo of yours and they don't have the balls to ask for it, have at it.:)
hmmm well I don't want people to take and use my pictures in whatever way necessarily but I do want to enjoy sharing pictures on my blog,So I don't really worry about that. Probably stupid on my part.
