♡Welcome December

"Blessings of the Season!

Through the eyes of a child--that is how we always see Christmas.  And no matter how familiar the traditions we renew year after year, our joy is as glorious as it was the first time we looked up at the smiling angel atop our tree.
For Christmas is, after all, wonderment."
(From an old "Victoria" magazine)

♫
No, our weather doesn't *look like* Christmas yet.  (No snow now)  But it *feels more like* it, with 31 degrees before sun-up this morning.  And the local "Victorian Street Walk" will be held this evening.  The Silver Anniversary of this event happening in our city.  :-)   Car traffic is closed in our downtown and everyone can walk from one side of the street to the other, without danger.  It's a delightful Victorian home-town event.
♫
On Thanksgiving, we were looking through an old photo album, and our 13 year old Granddaughter was mesmerized by the tinsel on our Christmas Tree, way back when our children were little.  :-)  Trouble is, it was so difficult to put on.  You needed one patient member of the family, to put on each strand.  ("Uncle A's" Father did that...   Back in the day...)  And cats (which we didn't have, back then) ingest it and....  It comes out the *other end*, so to speak.  Eeeek!
.
Dear Reader, do you remember old fashioned tinsel?  Do you still use it, perhaps?  It would be lovely to know that someone does.  :-)  Nothing reflects Christmas Tree Lights, like old fashioned tinsel!!!

♫
-sigh-  Sad-to-say, our little Christmas Tree is not yet decorated.  Neither one of us like that process.  Of course, with the artificial tree, the *horror* of putting lights on, is gone.  Poor "Uncle A." always had to do that!!!!!!  -sighhhhhhh-
.
And since it is a tiny tree, not all that many balls have to put on....  But...  The bag with the tree decorations sits there...  In front of the tree....   *Mocking us...*  -giggles-
.
Maybe today!!!  Maybe I'll begin.  Than we each can do some, and ............  It will be all done, in not too very long!!!!!!!!  And we can *pat ourselves* on the back, and tell each other, how wonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnderful we are, after all.  LOL...

♫
Isn't that cookie box the sweetest thing???  Oh I'd love to have loads of such (old fashioned and precious) illustrations, up all over.  :-)
♫

And as you can see, I'm using pics of Christmas time decorations, from The Victorian Trading Co. catalogue , today in my blog.  For some reason, I can't get my own photos to post in my blog, again...  Cropped and as I want them, that is.  -sigh-  Soooooo, The Victorian Trading Co. has wonderful old fashioned looking things!  And they post, without a bit of trouble.  So.........  "Step back and punt"  as they say.  :-)

♫

"The orange-scented zephyrs stirred, the branches rustled, and the tinsel crackled like merry music, to which the sparkling lights danced."

I would absolutely 'love' to use tinsel on my tree. Then I got my cats, and they 'loved' to eat the tinsel. It actually could kill them so I stopped. I still see it in the stores.

I still put tinsel on the tree, it's not the old fashioned heavy kind though. To me a Christmas tree just doesn't look finished without the tinsel. I am the one who puts it on the tree - its always only me.

Don't let those ornaments taunt you. They'll get up when they do. It's official. I've decided NOT to get out the ornaments. No worries about ornaments this year. The Walk around town tonight sounds delicious. Will you all bundle up then and be off? Hope that warm cider is served or something more warming. Enjoy and tell us all about it!

Hi Auntie!

I love your old fashion pictures, and I wish I was there to go on the Victorian walk, it sounds delightful!!

I don't even have my Fall decorations down yet - I can't even think about decorating for Christmas for a week or so . . . am I a Scrooge or what?!

I remember that old fashioned tinsel! They make it out of plastic now - remember when it was made of aluminum - all crinkly and pretty?! I loved it! I don't use it now, because I don't think it's as pretty, and I hate taking it off of my "artificial" tree... :0)

I will let you know how, Hunger Games, is. It's really good so far. I didn't think I would like it, but I do!

Hugs,
Barb

Oh I love VTC - and just ordered myself a white feather tree from there last night. I had b-day money left and thought what a great way to spend it!

No tinsel here, but my Mum used to put so much on that you couldn't see the ornies:)

At the cottage,(our home after Jan 15th) we have a small artificial tree. Bought it at the Thrift Store, had the lights permanently on it. All for $5 a few years ago. I call it Mr. Fuller, after the Fuller Brush Man -- remember those guys, that's another post.

I do remember that tinsel...as I was always the one to clean it up I didn't care for it...or using the real trees I had to clean up all those needles too.lol I was the oldest of nine. I am glad for the fake version with the lights already on them.
Hope you get your pictures to load I would like seeing them....the ones you posted were very nice. I do love the wall paper on your walls in the header. Merry Christmas

I DO have tinsel! I don't use it on every tree, though. I have three trees up and decorated and no tinsel on any of them - so far! I love putting the ornaments on....that is my favorite part! So many memories. I have SO many ornaments! That's whu I have SO many trees!!

And I love Victoria Magazine! I haven't subscribed in awhile but I keep my back issues.
They never 'age'....

I love the old fashioned feel of these decorations. And the silver theme runs throughout. I remember tinsel, though we don't use it now. But I remember it fondly. We were of the one piece at a time variety. My husband's family was of the grab a pile and throw type. :-)

Oh how I enjoyed this post. So warm and cozy and with the feeling of the holidays to come. Beautiful, and bringing back beautiful memories of my youth.

PS...loved the quote you shared, also, from the Victoria magazine.
