Did you see the film "Secretariat." About the winning horse and Penny Chenery Tweedy, the lady who believed in him?
This is where she lived, back then, during the August Racing Season.
I've been taken through this home, when the care takers (an older couple) used to live there, year round. I got to be friends with the woman, and she took me through, when it was ready for the owners to come back for August. I LOVE it, when I have been able to get a "tour" of some of our city's beautiful older homes!

Up the street from that one, is another old mansion, used in the summer. I was noticing the intricate way, in which old houses were built...... At the top. That kind of an open porch, which you see, at bottom of pic, is NOT original to the house. But those fancy 'things' on the top, are.
And I've been in this one, back when it was owned by a local doctor and his wife, as a year round residence. They had lots of children, and all the neighborhood children used to play together. So she was just another mom-in-the-neighborhood.
Needless to say, WE DO NOT live in a huge home! The whole block, where OUR normal size lot and normal size home is, along with many other normal sized homes.... Whole lot was once one of the old Estates. But it was eventually torn down and the whole lot sold, for home building. That is why we (and many others) live adjacent to these bigggggggggggggg old homes. -grin-

Up the street, this house is not quite as fancy on top, as the other. But that top window, does have interesting quirks. Oh and this one, is supposed to be haunted. ,-) Or so the kids who lived there, and played with our kids, said. -grin-

Last one, on this side of the street... Called The Red Villa. More fancy touches, at the top. And it's called The Red Villa because of being built with all the red stone. But personally, I do not care for this one. So dark and just not pretty looking.
Nope, not been in it. -pout-
But I'll do a post some day, with pics of all the old houses, I have been inside of. :-)

I love old homes. Actually, I live in what we call here a pre-war building. The ceilings are so high that I cannot hang curtains without a ladder. The original oven is still visible. One day I will put a picture of it on my blog. It's so quiet compared to the new buildings because in the old days they made double walls. I absolutely love it.

Okay, who else is complaining? About the same thing complaining? Complaining minds want to know.☺
Lovey old homes...oh and look at the ivy all over ze place on that first one. It's really about the details, don't you think? Exquisite details that are missing in homes such as mine. Does your home have details?
Lovey old homes? Bwahahahahahaha...okay, I don't know how lovey they are, but they are lovely.
i love old homes, the older the better, these are beautiful. i am from Savannah GA and there are so manyhomes there that i love. i have been in about 5 of them that were opened to the public. you were lucky to get inside that first one.
I don't like that last house either, but the other ones are wonderful! How super that you have actually had a tour of a couple of them. All very grand I must say, but then, dear Auntie, I see you as a very grand lady! Thank you for your supportive e mail this morning about the problem with my Blog. I'm hoping that all is well now. Grrr! Take care.
I love the old houses too. So much attention to the detail really makes them unique.
I love that movie...I've watched about 10 times in the last 6 months...I love old houses..so much more charm than some of the new ones...
I too enjoy touring the inside of big old homes, they have so much character compared to now.
cheers.
they just don't build them like that anymore and i wish they did!!
i saw the secretariat, it was a great film. that house, with the ivy, is my favorite!!
Is that a pretty new header I see?
I'm jealous, I admit it. I would just simply love seeing inside of that beautiful huge home! I love old houses and often think how I would love to see the inside of many of them. The last house looks like it could be haunted, too! It is certainly different.
This was an interesting tour of homes. Thanks for sharing!
Those are some beautiful old homes.
Nice to look at - but I wouldn't want to live in one and have to clean and maintain it.
Hugs,
Penny
Aren't they just magnificent. I would have loved to live in any one of them, back when I was young.
And, beings that I MUST live in a cocoon, I had to go see what THE MILE HIGH CLUB was....*MERCY....in the air??
I love old homes, and there are several in the area that are tour-worthy. There is such history with these houses!
I actually have good memory of when Secretariat won!:-)

I would love to see inside the first house. It was my favorite and it looks amazing!
