♥ Time for Soup...!!!

It's time to think about making SOUP...  :-)

This continued to bubble away yesterday.  Barley added.   More liquid.   More bubbling.   Put it in the refrigerator, over night.  Today we can skim lots of fat off the top, before heating it up, to eat.

Do you Dear Reader, refrigerate such recipes over night, to take the fat off?

And time for an Apple Pie, with those apples we brought home from the farm stand.  But we have to get one ingredient.  Uncle A. will have to make a quick-run to the little store...

Then he will get going on the peeling/slicing.  And I will get going on the home made crust.  (And keep it a secret, from extended family...  So Uncle A. can have the first Apple Pie, all to himself.  -grin-)  Not to worry, he takes his time in eating it.  He likes to savour it.   Because he knows I won't make many.  The crust has toooooo much Sat/Fat stuff in it.  I have to take care, that he doesn't have tooooooo many baddddddd "goodies."

Obviously, this Plant Nursery really gets-into the spirit of Halloween!!!

These decorations are inside, for now.  But outside, on a big field beside the Nursery, "The Pumpkin Patch" is beginning to be assembled.  This is the cutest thing, for all ages!!!  And I remember bringing my oldest Granddaughter here, when she was a wee-one.  :-))))))))   Things like riding with her, in the little "train," which takes littler kids around, in the day time.  Too scary for them to go, at night.  -grin-   Also not quite big enough, for 'Nanas' to fit, easily.  LOL!

(Organic this and that, where we got the apples...)

Before I forget!  I actually saw one Hummingbird the other day.  I looked up and there was a wee grayish-brown one, hovering a bit, outside the Patio door.  He didn't stay, but at least I did get to see him.  ONE anyway.

Wondering if they *summered* a bit north of here this year, because of the hot summer weather?  And he was just stopping-by, on his way south now?  :-)

Do kids have fun at this Nursery???   Or do kids have fun, at this Nursery????    ,-))))))))))

And do "Nanas" with cameras, have fun at this place, tooooooo?????????????  ,-)))))))))))))

Hey - I'm thinking soup too:)

I don't usually refrigerate over night to skim the fat before we eat it, but if it's there for leftovers I do.

Yeah for FALL!

great shot of the soup, i find taking photos of food hard for me. of course since i don't cook very much, that could be the problem. we eat the fat the first night, then after it sits over night remove it from the left overs. that fat is what makes it taste good. i am trying to remember how many years since i made soup, i think 2 or 3 years.
this is the most halloween decorations i have ever seen in one place.

I see we are following similar paths. Pray tell, what are you using for your crust? Crisco might be a better option: http://www.crisco.com/products/Category.aspx?GroupID=17

Hoping for Uncle's sake that your pie is much, much better than mine. The good news is that I will not be eating anymore of it. =D

Lovely photos!

I always plan ahead and skim any fat off the top of broth for soup.

Have a good Thursday, "Auntie."

Up here in Minnesota it's gettin' to be that time, too. Made a white chicken chili the other day that just hit the spot!

Always skim the fat. Ohhh Apple pie, I was thinking more in the line of Apple crisp, as I don't like pie crust. I know something the matter with me!!! Enjoy the cooler weather!

My mother always did soup that way -- with the skimming. We just dive in and eat it! Any leftovers involve the fat removal, though. Love the photos of the nursery -- I must get out to the ones around us and see what they're doing.
BTW, you can substitute in your pie crust and make it just as yummy.
Peace,
Muff

Love all those apples!!!
I refrigerate soups for the next day because I think they taste better the next day but I do take the fat off too.

LOVE soup! Love making it, love eating it, just love it to bits and, yup, I'm a fat-skimmer as well. I made a hearty lentil stew last night and can't wait to have it for my 'lunch' today.

The pictures are wonderful; I'm just like a little kid when it comes to Halloween.

Your soup photo made me hungry:)

I agree with Happyone that most things, including soup, taste better the 2nd day. My Mom taught me to take the solid fat layer off once the soup had chilled and I still do it every time. However, if I want to eat it the same day I try and skim much of the excess fa t off the top. If you took all the fat out, especially chicken soup, it would lose a lot of the flavor. I can't make a good pie crust to save my life. Mom used Crisco and her pie crust was always light and flakey. I hate to say it, but when Crisco took out the transfats a few years ago, it no longer works as well in baked goods. Many good cooks would take the fat layer from chicken soup and use that for the fat needed in pie crust. Now that killing 2 birds with 1 stone! You have made me so hungry I must go roam through my refridgerator. If only you could send food through the internet...you know what I mean. Thanks Auntie
