On October 18th, 2010, I posted the following, in the blog I had, at that time.
Titled "I promised spooky stories, of my old city...,-)"
Above, is a picture of a beautiful old home, which was renovated, and used by a publishing business. One of our daughters-in-law worked there, for some years. Her office
was on the third floor. (Was this attic, originally maybe servants'
quarters? Don't know.)
One day when our Granddaughter was in middle school, she and her friend walked over there, after school one day, and went to
her mom's office. Then her mom and all the employees went to a
conference meeting, down on the main floor. Our 'Grand' and friend, were
drawing (up in her mom's office) and all of a sudden, heard the sound of heels clicking on the
floor, outside the office. So they went and looked, and no was there.
So they went back to drawing, in the back office. Came the clicking sounds
again. Again, no one was there when they looked. They naturally told her
Mom, when she returned from the meeting. And her Mom said; "But you couldn't have heard any heels clicking on floor up here. It's all carpeted." ,-)
And there is more....
One Sunday, this daughter-in-law had to do work in her office, and of
course, no one else was in the building. So she took their black Lab
'Ruby' with her, just to be on the safe side. As I said previously, her
office was in back of top floor, and she and 'Ruby' went up the stairs
to the 2nd floor. D-in-law climbed up the stairs to the 3rd floor. But 'Ruby' got
agitated and would not go up those stairs. So our d-i-law let 'Ruby' lie at
the bottom of the 3rd floor stairs, while she went up and did her work.
Why was a big dog like 'Ruby,' seemingly afraid to go up to the top floor??? What did 'Ruby' sense? I trust an animal's instincts, as pretty pure. What had happened up there, once upon a time? Something sinister perhaps? Hmmmmmm........ ,-)

Very attractive building...
Very well told story...
But Dear One, it is NOT a story.
2 people whom I trust... My oldest Grand and her Mother... HAD these things happen, to them.

i can tell you if my dog would not go up the steps neither would I. i would be thinking there might be a human lurking up there. my aunts house had the sound of someone running up or down the stairs, heard it myself, every time i spent the night. i like spooky stories and this is a great one.
Do not take this as my saying it was a lie because I do not believe that it was a lie. Nevertheless, all things told are stories, are they not? I would say that I told two or more stories in my essay yesterday and I told another today. What else does one call them?
Years ago when DH and I were first married, we spent the night at his mother's house in Louisiana. The next morning I told my MIL that I had a dream about 'a white horse'. She said, "that white horse has been running through dreams in this house for years"...???
No Dear One, you were not calling what they said, a lie. And I don't know what to call something like this... Experiences maybe?
They happened to people whom I know. So I don't think they fit in with the usual kind of a "Story."
Oh I have them, to tell... The fact that some of that iron fence, feels warm at times, is a Story of our City. The ones told about another house, are kind of stories. That's yet to come.
But then, even these "Smokey Bear's House" tales, happened to people still living and telling them...
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... A conundrum! :-) Needs a Search, for the correct word. :-))))

Cool - love things like this. We have things happen at The Old Parsonage all the time.

a good scary story about a beautiful house! they say that animals know these tings!
the owner of my daughters dance studio believes there is a ghost that lives there...a nice one...but they do hear strange things...it used to be where the nuns lived...it was an old catholic church...if my dog wouldn;t go up...neither would I...I definetely trust a animals instinct...I like these kind of scarey stories...no blood and guts..
Spooky...I probably would have carried the dog up there with me...cause I'm a big old scaredy cat.
I had a similar experience in the old building where my office is located. One morning I heard my co-worker come in and head for her office. I called out, "Good morning, Dee". No response. I assumed she was in one of her moods again so I let it go. Then, when I got up to go to the ladies room, I discovered that she NEVER had been there, that I was all alone.
My cat sees things all the time. In the old house she would stop whatever she was doing and just stare into one of the bedrooms.

SPOOKY!!!!
In our bedroom at home there are times in the night when it FEELS as though a cat hopped up on the bed.....or someone sat down on the foot of the bed. I can't tell you how many time I have raised up thinking whichever cat lived in my house at the time was down there. This has happened for over 30 years through different beds and two husbands. It never happens in the guest room - only my bedroom!Spooky, huh?
I'm convinced that the school where I was the principal was haunted. It was an ancient building with many updates, but also with many "cubbyholes." When I was there late at night, I heard footsteps, doors, and voices -- and I was the only one there! People laughed when I told them, but I know I heard those things!
Peace,
Muff
I LOVE GHOST STORIES...especially true ones!!! I believe in ghosts because I've seen one, lived in a haunted house and I believe I live in one now. These were great, Auntie, and I agree that animals seem to see what we humans cannot!
That building is gorgeous! Thank you so much for sharing your post with us today :)
Hugs,
Jan
Your DIL was brave to have gone on up the stairs with the dog behaving that way. I would have been too chicken.
We have had numerous strange happenings here in my house. I posted about them last Oct. and I may do a repeat this month. The latest Strange Thing is the sensation of someone sitting down at the foot of the bed just after I go to bed at night. Our daughter lives with us and has felt the same thing on her bed. It's a little weird. She has had a lot of spooky happenings where she works and the latest I just heard about yesterday. I was thinking of doing a post about it if she gives me the okay. It's that time of year for such stories. Loved hearing yours!
Ah spooky! Gave me the chills.
I have a couple of happenings as well.
I'll have to do a blog about them one day. : )
I love ghost stories with a passion..always have. My Aunt Lillian could tell the BEST ones.
I have one GOOD story about an olden house we lived in when I was very young.
I have another story that.....well, I think I will do as you suggested and do a little spooky post....:))
xoxo
I also love spooky stories and truly do believe that there are ghosts!! There are too many things that happen that can't be explained. I trust an animal's instinct and there's no way I would have gone up those stairs if the dog didn't want to go! lol Thank you for sharing this true story with us, dear Auntie:-) xoxo
Love it! The Goatmother once lived in a house where she often heard someone walking up the stairs but no one was there, and heard humming when no one was there. I can't say as we have any ghost in the barn, though, unless it is the ghost of a rat maybe.
