"Oh! holly branch and mistletoe,
And Christmas chimes where'er we go,
And stockings pinned up in a row!
These are thy gifts, December!"
~Harriet F. Blodgett
(Pistachio Nuts...)
I love them to pieces!!! ,-)
(Pistachios and Jordan Almonds... -happy sigh-)
Jordan Almonds... I also love them to pieces. But I put them in the back of the pantry. So I don't seeee them, every time I go into the pantry.
(Blurrrrrrrry returns!!!)
I am trying to cut down on the amount of just-plain-sugar I ingest. My blood sugar is good but.. We ingest too much sugar and it's not a whole food, which our bodies are built to use. Just the taste, to which I am addicted. (And I can't use artificial sweeteners, because of my bladder.) So I put the Jordan Almonds away. And I am taking my decaf with only a tiny bit of sugar from the sugar jar. It's a BIT of progress.
(Christmas ornament that stays up, all year... Jake gave it to us...)
Now, is going to come some of that "TMI". Too Much Information. -grin- You may not want to read about Inflammation and Mucus. -chuckle- But more and more medical info. agrees, that our bodies contain way too much Inflammation. From what we eat. And if your body is trying to get rid of Mucus, you KNOW it. :-( Cutting sugar may help.
I know! THE WAY to do it is to give up sugar completely. I've never been able to do this..... So far....
(Next door tree, seen through small, high window)
There are already many foods, which I can not eat. Because my body will not happily tolerate them. So I think it would be super cool, if I only eat whole foods. If...........
Ever read anything on Macrobiotics? I used to think it was just brown rice and water. Nope! Here is a Cheat Sheet on it. Eat whole foods, and keep away from sugars, caffeine (I can't have caffeine already), dairy (Same here) Oh I can take a Lactaid-like pill and get away with a little bit of dairy. But! The Mucus catches up with me! Hehhhh....
"Macrobiotics For Dummies" is an interesting book.
I know. You are saying; NOT at Holiday Time. But what's the difference? I can't/don't eat any of those Holiday Goodies, anyway... :-)

we are both addicted to sugar, so 2 years ago we stopped bringing any sugar into the house. we can only eat it every other week when we eat out. if we have pie or cake or cookies we eat eat eat until it is gone. i love the photo of Uncle A's hands, true art.
Stevia has become my lifesaver. Not artificial and they even have stevia you can bake with now.
Pistachios are amazing. I have a huge weakness for them haha.
Okay, I read through. Whatever works for you and keeps you in top form is terrific. Say, I bought those little almonds on your recommendations here. I nearly ruined my dental work on them, but they were as you say, "just enough."
inflammation and mucus went really well with the indian food i was eating for breakfast! haha!!! do you ever buy the shelled pistachios?
Oh, there go those Jordan Almonds again. Last time you mentioned them, I ended up stopping on the way home to buy some. My favorites as well.
Speaking of candy and artificial sweeteners. I always keep a cough drop or mint in my mouth. With my thyroid pressing against my esophagus, I keep getting tickles and having a cough. This morning I stopped at Duane Reade and saw the greatest looking hard candy on sale for $1.69 so I picked up a bag of each flavor(5 bags). Got to the register and discovered they were sugar free. Poor guy had to delete everything. For some reason artificial sweeteners make me sick.

I am with you on the Pistachios and a lot of people like those almonds - not my favorite. I agree 100% about the sugar and whole foods. I need to do it myself. sandie
Speaking of pistachios, it made me think of my favorite ice cream...pistachio nut from Baskin Robbins. Yum! I'm not supposed to eat sugar because of blood sugar levels, but I'm addicted I think. I do try not to overdo.
My chiropractor tells me that eliminating sugar, caffeine, refined foods, etc., will result in better health. He does say that eating butter and eggs, which were once no-nos are okay. I'm sure he's right, it's just so hard to give it all up. I suppose I need to learn to "eat to live, instead of living to eat"!
I looked at the cheat sheet, it doesn't look that bad at all. I'd have to up my beans ante, but besides that, I think I could dig it. :)
I LOVE sugar too!!!!
Love the photos Auntie!!

I'm looking for that book, sounds interesting! Do you mind me asking why you cannot use artificial sugar because of your bladder? I hace Interstitial Cystitis and cannot for that reason,
I can pass up the almonds but I love pistachios.
I am really lucky and can eat anything - nothing bothers my innards!!
For me my motto is all things in moderation. I always say I can eat anything, just not as much of it as I would like! : )
sugar is hiding in everything...its hard to give it up completely...
You know....I never thought of sugar being a culprit to mucus...I have had a terrible time at night with it. I love your angel topper on your header photo. She looks antique...very sweet.
I may have to try cutting the sugar for more reasons than one but for sure to test the mucus issue.
Thanks for the tip
