Doc and meds, finally... And reading... And.......

I'd had my sore throat for 2 weeks.  Sometimes, it got better...  Then back to being very sore.  Doc said I now have a sinus infection, and gave me an Rx for meds.  When the 10-days-of-meds are up, I hope *Gabe's little cold* will be gone, from inside of 'Nana.'  :-)    ~~~   Since I was *officially* sick, we went and got a Spring Wreath, for the front door.  -grin-

And I came home and continued reading "The Shallows."  Another one of those "what-is-the-Net-doing-to-us?" books.  Yes, technology has done wonders, and we aren't going back, to before it.  But in this book, Mr. Carr examines the idea of neuroplasticity—the idea that the brain rewires itself, to adapt to the stimuli, it encounters....  Anyone on the Net, knows that info comes at us, at an alarmingly fast rate.  And that we can become addicted, to checking-for-something-new.

Do we feel as if we have developed ADD?

Is it hard for us to stick to one project, through completion?

Can we sit down and read a book thoroughly, for an hour or more?  (Not 'chick lit.'  I mean a rather deep book, of facts.

Hmmmmmm....  Is it possible that our brains HAVE been adapting, to the fast-fast-fast stimuli of the Net?

If this has happened to us....  What the hell, is it doing to our children?  Do you see children sitting down and reading books, for a period of time?  Do you see them starting, and completing tasks?  Without prompting?

I sat and read that ding-dang-book, full of history of the science of the brain and facts, facts, facts.  TO  PROVE  TO  MYSELF, that my brain hadn't been fried YET, into needing constantly changing bits of information, with graphics, popping at it!!!!!!!!!!!!   ,-)

I'm not snapping pics of our meals now.  (Do I hear a sigh of relief???  -grin-)  But still "casting-about" for photo ops!!!  -grin-  'Uncle A.' made a new wooden puzzle for Gabe, and was painting it.  This was the a paper he used, to mix acrylic paints.  Saw it there...  Thought  *Modern Art*!!!!!   -click-  A picture!!!  -grin-
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh...  Another *Photo Op,* when one is desperate!!!!   I'll tell what it is, at the bottom of this post.  Can you figure it out, before looking???????????????
Nope, didn't have a clue what that last photo was. I must say that being offline more than I've been on has made me feel more calm...like a nice big sigh so I'm sure that my brain gets scrambled. Sorry that you have a sinus infection. The grands can certainly provide us with plenty of chances to share germs. Hope that little Gabe is feeling better, too. Oh lovely spring wreath for the door!
I never would have guessed that was inside of a washing machine.
I don't think I spend too much time on line. I have a pretty good balance with all my activities.
Sure hope your feeling better.
Never would have thought to photo my washing machine. Love it!
Your header is soooo pretty, my friend.
Sinus infections must be sweeping the nation. I am never 'under the weather' but I have had this crud now for 2 weeks. My son (36) had to go to the doctor and get an injection, cough syrup, and a Z pack for his sinus infection. It's terrible down here. The pollen has taken over!
Sending you wishes to get better.
Hugs and love,
Jackie
I've been a little 'under the weather'too, - hope you get rid of YOUR bug! I think mine is just tired. Tired of being tired. So an early bedtime for me - and reading a real BOOK!! There's at least SOME truth in that research. Probably.
I didn't have a clue what your photo was...guess my brain is fried...:)
Deeds reads all the time, just like her mom. I read some but still like playing around on the computer more.
In fact, I just finished up a blog look for spring...come see. :))
Sure hope you do feel better with the meds. I'm sure they will knock the infection..then you and Gabe both will feel better.
Take good care...tea...lemonade...
and whatever you want to eat.
I guessed washing machine.... :)
Hope the amoxicillin helps. There have been a lot of long-lasting sinus infections this winter. Take some probiotics to help counter the effects (of course you don't need me to tell you this, being married to Uncle Abe).
Neuroplasticity is an interesting topic ... Mr. M has read about it from another angle (that of increasing brain function and neural connections, in part by targeted exercises).
Feel better soon!
Woody Allen said his brain was his second favourite organ, but he may have been exaggerating given how neurotic he seems to be. Have you tried meditating?
Sorry to hear you are sick & hope you are feeling better very soon. A trip to the Doctors certainly justifies buying a pretty new wreath for your front door (Cuz when your shopping you forget your sick - right?).
Studies have proven that young children (4 and under) develop more pathways than any other age group. There have been lots of warnings not to let these small one watch any TV or video. There is too much info coming into the brain causing miswiring to occur. I can't stand it when I see people sticking their babies & little kids in front of the TV and use it as a babysitter, when it is slowing their kids intellectually. The activities I see Gabe doing in your photos are all great single activities that promote good brain connections and increase intellectual potential. The worst offenders are those Baby Einstein videos many educated parent start sticking their infants in front of damaging their brains. It is reading.talking to them, singing to them or giving them some pots & pans to play with (or the box that video came in) which encourage good synaptic growth.
The media has condition people to have short attention spans and trouble focusing on a task for longer than a couple of minutes. That is why reality shows with commercials every 5 mins. & people magazine 3 sentence articles are the norm now. The media has dumbed people down using these methods Multitasking is also proving to led to adult dysfunction.
Once you are an adult it is very difficult to get your brain to make new long term brain pathways.
Take good care of your brain - it the only one you get.
