Did you ever hear of a "Happy Gene"? :-) Neither had I. Until a discussion about SAD and etc. Someone said that she was very upset, after 9/11, and her doctor gave her some temporary medication. It helped her. She got her "Happy Gene" back. And discontinued the medication.

Getting back to the way, in which this time of year (lingering of Winter), can really mess-with a lot of people's equilibriums... I wonder why? Not the "Little Why's" of... Needing to see green things growing, or being tired of feeling cold, or wanting to run out the door, without a heavy coat on, or craving the colors of flowers... And not even the very real aspect of SAD... I wonder why, in a basic sense, some of us get sooooo tirrrrrrred of lingering Winter?
(Learning the scales...)
Wayyyyyyyyyyyy back, I'm sure our ancestors had a very real fear of running out of food, at this time of year. It being too cold to plant yet, and preserved stocks of food, running low. THAT was a real fear, and could have really upset/worried them.
("Make-believe-room", behind the curtain...)
But we don't live, like that. If we are in Pretty Blog Land, we know we will eat tomorrow. What doesn't grow yet locally, we buy in the grocery store. Our homes have heat. Our vehicles get us from here to there, easily. Snow doesn't make us house-bound. Plus, even when we do stay in our homes, we have access to the whole world, via the Net, tv, and etc. We can "see" the whole world, from our snug home. But maybe, that's part of "It"?
Today, we can't forget, that in some places, flowers are blooming. We see up-close-and-personal photos/film of loads of blooming flowers and green grass/trees/shrubs, as far as the eye can see. Somewhere.
If we couldn't seeeeeee all that beauty, would we crave it? So would our lack of this craving, help us to not be so upset/unhappy with a lingering Winter?
-chuckle- Running low on blogging ideas. Could you tell???? -grin-

Did I link to my book blog (Auntie's Reads 3013), concerning "Vampires In The Lemon Grove"? Well, if not, here is a link.... Please click here.... Thank you.

BLOGGER WATCH:
Did you happen to visit "BJ" while her blog was switched to a whole different blog look??? It's back to looking like it always does, now. But yesterday, it was totally weird. What happened? If it happened to her, could it happen to us? Could our blog, all of a sudden, be somehow *changed*? Eeeeeeeek. What next, to worry about?????????????

Well I know that personally, this lingering winter is getting me down. Although I have all of the 'luxuries' you mentioned, not being able to spend LONG spans of time outside is quite depressing. Atleast for me. I LONG for the days when we are outside from 8 am until bedtime..just coming in to make meals and use the bathroom (even the boys rarely come in for that in the summertime hee hee)....life seems to slow down on those days...when you can just sit back and relax and enjoy the sounds etc. Winter is SO quiet outside too....I LONG for the sound of birds, squirrels and chipmunks, and not to mention all the green!! Oh and our pool....I also find that it's SO much harder to get rid of the boys energy in the wintertime....BUT this morning, the boys went with me for my LONG walk....1.6 miles I walked and they biked YEAH YEAH YEAH!! sorry for the book hee hee
Yes the snow must go, true too we have it way easier compared to back then, never knew there was a happy gene either.
I think a lot of it is perspective. We associate sun and warmth with happiness. But I like to find the beauty in winter. Snow is absolutely the most beautiful thing in the world (to me). Plus there are fireplaces, family get-togethers, warm food, etc. that make winter beautiful.
p.s. what's that photo behind the piano in both of those pics? Looks like Lincoln lol
and i am the only one enjoying every last flake! it is snowing here today!!!
Love those sweet Elmo socks and all the shots of Gabe! Especially with Pop at the piano.
Hmm...never thought about SAD or the happy gene. I'm a person who's pretty much happy all the time.
Happy Easter sweet Auntie!
Leann
I love all photos that you have of sweet Gabe. His red socks, his hiding place, his piano playing (nice Baldwin, by the way.)
Sending you hugs, love and wishes for a blessed Easter.
Love,
Jackie
Ah, spring. This morning when I left for the doctor, the sun was shining so brightly that I wished I had sunglasses. It's still cold out there, but at least it was finally bright.

No, I've never heard of the happy gene, but I must have it. : )
If there is a happy gene...many people need to be spliced.:):) I love your little guy learning piano.
Auntie..I do not know enough about making my photos larger. It may have something to do with our monitor..it's very small. When I read your blog, I have to keep moving it around to read it all. Sorry...xoxo,Susie
i love that shot of Gabe in the hiding hole and his red socks... great shots of him as always, he is so very photogenic
i was wondering the same thing Auntie?? i heard her story - got me worried. could my blog so crazy - & it occur just suddenly??! did she solve the problem? ( :
Sometimes winter "gets me down", but honestly, this Winter, I am happy to see the snow, knowing it will help.
What really depressed me was the brown grass and burned and dying gardens, last Summer, here in the Midwest. No, I don't have SAD this Winter.
Loved the images, today Auntie. Sweet!
What about Vampires in the Lemon Grove didn't you like? I heard the author talk about it on public radio a few days ago and it sounded interesting; though I tend to prefer novels to the short story.
Did Gabe get a haircut? His hair looks shorter to me. He's such a cutie.
I know I grumbled about all the snow, but I also know it was much needed. We are now out from under the dreaded 'drought' label. Yay! I think a lot of us get tired in winter from the lack of sunshine and fresh air.
Pretty piano!
When people have their basic needs met, isn't it common for many American to desire the most, what they cannot have? Needs vs. Wants. "The grass is always greener..." theory. The tourist industry depends on people wanting to escape Winter weather to support the industry.
As soon as our hot weather arrives, the same people who camplain about the interminable Winter will be the first to complain about the intolerable Summer heat. If it ain't one thing it's another for some.
Modern society is discontentwith most things they cannot immediately change with the click of the remote, including weather. Doppler this and Weather Bug that and still we don't know what to expect until we look out our windows. It does not help our weather stress level when every weather report turns regular seasonal weather and turns it into a threatening "Weather Event". Weather is now treated like a tabloid headline & exploited for ratings.
Aside from those with SAD and other physiologial conditions who have a true need for Winter to end. The vast majority of us need to busy ourselves with other things until we wake up one day and see that Winter has been replaced by Spring - regardless of the calender date.
We are natural born grumblers when it comes to the seasons...we tire of things easily. I think Winter blahs is from lack of sun and the vitamin D that is gives us. There could be six inches of snow and if the sun is out it is OK ...no sun...I get sleepy. Look for Spring . LOL Gabe at the piano and in his little red socks is so cute....what a little treasure you have to keep you company ....♥
My happy gene was activated just by looking at Gabe and company. :)
