Please Thank a Veteren, today...

Please, thank a Veteran today...

I will begin, by thanking my husband.

~~~  ~~~  ~~~  ~~~  ~~~  ~~~  ~~~  ~~~  ~~~  ~~~  ~~~  ~~~  ~~~
I so love little white candles.  Love their little flicker.  Love the pretty shadow, which they cast about.  Love the ambiance, they bestow on a room.
"Heap high the farmer's wintry hoard!
Heap high the golden corn!
No richer gift has Autumn poured
From out her lavish horn!"
~  John Greenleaf Whittier
More rocks and leaves...  More sunlight...   More shadows, among the river rocks...
A shadow, on a sunny day...  Another form of ambiance...  Sun and shadow, on a table, set with a pub-style red and white tablecloth...
Some of the Old Roses, put to bed, for winter.  Covered with a blanket of leaves.
♥ Decorations, here and there...
We brought this Cute Guy back from the Rotary Scholarship Foundation Brunch, on Sunday.  We actually didn't have a pumpkin.  And This Cutie was our table center piece.   For a donation, you could bring him home.  So he enjoys watching the world go by, from our front patio table, during the day.  But at night, we bring him in.  Don't want him to end up smashed, out on the road, in the morning.  -pout-
I took a copy of this book, out of the library, for "Uncle A." and he's been enjoying it so much!  Mostly he reads Large Print, and this didn't come in LP.  But it's so packed with interesting info, that he's been slowly reading regular print.
But, it's a New Book and you can't keep them out too long.  So I said, let's buy a copy and take the library book back.  Which we did.  We got t his, on the same morning trip, on which I got my Witches Hat.  That was a good *errands trip*!!!!  :-)
We rarely buy books anymore.  But this is the wise exception.  He enjoys it!  It's a pick-up-now-and-then-book.  And it IS packed with thought-provoking information!  I was considering getting a couple of house plants.  But not now!  I could never get rid of them, if I grew tired of them or something.   NOT with what I now know, of plants!  I'd feel cruel.  -pout-  :-)
That lovely tree again.  Which by now, has lost most of its leaves.  Sad...  But I enjoyed it and took pics of it, while I could.
This house has been decorated for a while.  Every time I go by, I wish I had my camera.  Well, this time, I did and we pulled over and I finally got a pic.  Those hanging Ghosties are so cute.  I didn't think so, when first seeing them.  But when the wind blows, they float about and are just the cutest!  :-)
Yes, I want some.  But we don't have a porch, on which to hang them.  -pout-
And yet another variation, on the color changing, of some Sumac.  Thank you to Dear Readers who told me the name of this kinda' funny looking tree or large bush.  :-)  I don't like them, in the summer.   But they do put on a beautiful show, with Autumn.
Mmm, are they poison?  Or are some Sumac's poison?  I thought "Sumac" and "poison" went together....
♥ Is my pic still in my Header? -giggggles-
(Source)
(Sparkle...  Sparkle...)
From my new Header pic, you can see what I was able to find when we went out on Mon. morning.  :-))))))   Yes, those are little spiders, on the veil.  Brrrrrrrrrr...  -grin-
("X" marks the spot...   Nahhh, just pic taken, on an angle, inside a window...)
I was still taking pics, out our bedroom window!!!  Love the pinky-golden effect of these leaves, every year.
Doesn't this look like a JUNGLE?  Took this pic, out a kitchen window, across our pool area and into the back yard of the neighbor's house.  That first red-yellow weird thing, is ours, I admit.  -blushing-  I did not do "slash-and-burn" on our own rogue vines this year.
But beyond, you can see the pretty dense foliage, in neighbor's yard.  Her old boyfriend did this!  -sigh-  BF is gone, but his wild plantings and "let-things-run-wild" remain.  Ughhhhhh..........
Ohhhhhh, that red tree, in the front yard next door.  Still beautiful, in this photo.  But as I write this, it has lost many, many of its leaves.  So glad I "got it", when I did.
Btw, this pic is taken from a facing-south window.  It's looking across our pool area, and you see the pool fence...  Then the rounded green shrub and the tree, are in next-door neighbor's front yard.  Beyond that, you see into next neighbor's yard, and the box-on-a-big-post, which they have, for the newspaper man to deposit papers in, in the AM.  Like many, it's not so easy for the lady to lean over now.  This solves the problem, both for her, and for a place for the delivery man, to leave the paper...  When he pulls into their drive.
And beyond that, one sees past two more lawns, and has a view of the top of an old Carriage House, which is being restored.
(More sparkle...)
Enough "sparkle" to nearly put your eye out!!!!!!!!  Love it when the morning sun, does this, to shiny decorations.  :-)
~~--~~--~~--~~--~~--~~--~~--~~
I don't know how long I can leave that pic of me up, in my Header.  Hope I haven't *had* to change it, before you read this post.  -grinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn-
Kitty..."Hugo"...Leaves...Stories...
(Source)
This is "Bad Kitty," "BK", "Lucy", up close and personal.  She who you have seen in my  blog before.  But across the lawn, sitting in the window of the back porch, next door.
Being a kitten, she didn't stay still long enough for me to get good pics.  But she is nearly still, in this one.  Very friendly and cute.  But I can't pet either cat much...  Or it will mess with my allergies big-time.  -Blahhhhhhh-
"Hugo"  Charming...!  If you haven't seen this DVD,  I suggest you do.  :-)
I read the book, on which it is based, and wanted to see it, in a theater.  Then didn't...  But our library system has it, and I got it and we watched it last evening.  As I said...  It is charming...!
Something from an Oct. post, from some year in the past...
I really have to get going around and taking pics of local houses, decked out for both Autumn and Halloween.  I see them, and either I don't have my camera or....  There is too much traffic to stop in the road.  Ahhhhh yes!  'Tis another time of the year, when "Uncle A." has to put up with;  "Can you stop?!?  Beautiful flowers there in front of that house!!!"   -chuckle-
Autumn beauty, from a past year...  -sigh-
This year, not as brilliant...
Another picture, from a past year...  One of the beautiful old homes, in my city.
The iron fence in front of this old house, is said to have a hot-spot on it...  Spooooooky...  ,-))))  I love, love, love old stories about old places.  Love 'em.  But not everyone wants to read them.  So if I copy/and/paste the entry about this fence, from an old blog of mine, I'll put it at the bottom.  Then Dear Readers know that it might be longer, than what I write in my regular post.  But if they are in the mood for a story, they can read it, at the bottom.
A Place For Spooky Stories, From Our Old City
The fence/house pictured above...
This is another beautiful old home, on the same street, as the above house  (That, I will tell, another day.) It has a black, iron fence in front.  There is a story, that some part of that iron fence was supposed to be warm to the touch, even in cold weather. Dummmmmmmm-de-dum-dum....  ~~~~~~  It wasn't warm yesterday.   I checked one spot anyway. If I do research and find it is a particular (hot) spot, I'll be sure to go back and check! Maybe on Halloween night, hu?  ~~~~~~   Mmmm, maybe NOT on Halloween night.
♥ Ordinary Sun.~~~ turns UN ordinary one...
The sun was shining on Sat., but the wind was cool.  A restaurant on Broadway was still serving out on the long porch, if you wanted to eat out there.  (It has a lovely long porch, because it once was a lovely old Hotel...  The Rip Van Dam...  Preserved, by housing other businesses now.)  I only saw one couple out there, at that moment.   But this was taken, mid afternoon.   From my car window.  :-)
Was trying to capture a picture of the heating, which they provide, on the porch.  Those tall Art Deco looking lamps, which show reddish...  And those tall white/clear boxes...   They are sources of heat, for diners, when the cool winds blow.  ,-))))
We went down street to eat, mid afternoon on Sat., and we were amazed at the amount of cars and people!  And we were wondering what was going on?  But guess it was simply that it was a beautiful Sat. and loads of people were enjoying being on our Broadway.   They probably read, that our Main Street was selected as one of the 10  BEST in the Nation.    Along with 5th Ave. in NYC and others.  :-)))
How cool is that????
We keep getting similar (how great a city this is) awards.  About how super it is here.  And of course, lots of people come here, and then buy homes here and live here.  Because it's soooooo nice.
And then, they want to CHANGE  IT!!!!!!!!
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr......   %^**&^%$%^&&   -spit-  -fire-  -pout-  -gag-  -scream-  -sigh-  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...  Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
..*+*+*+..+* *.* *+..*+*+*+..~..*+*+*+..+* *.* *+..*+*+*+..
About 5PM on Sunday,  everything changed around here.  Our next-door d-i-law called.  12 year old Grand had fallen and broken his arm, and they had to get him to the ER.  "Pop" went right over to be with the other Grands.  I "shut things down" here, since the tv was going, and he had been cooking dinner, etc.....    When I got there, the Emergency Corps vehicle was there and a gurney was outside the front door.  !!!!  The break was so bad, that they had to call them, to secure the arm and transport him to the ER.
They finally got home, somewhere like 10PM.  He had good care, with our fav bone docs.  But it wasn't an easy time of it.  -sigh-  With luck, it is set, and it won't have to be operated on...  But we will have to see, about that...
Bingo!  How quickly things change...  From an ordinary Sun., to a very not-ordinary-one....
♥ Sun...Sparkle...Frost...Rain...
"He heard sound coming.  Rain like hundreds of mice running through corn."
~Virginia Hamilton
GUESS what it's doing here, on Sunday morning???????????
Sparkles and Shadows...  :-)  One of those *I-noticed-and-clicked* pics.  And this pic really "caught" the sparkle!  Of the sunlight reflected on the decorations, on Saturday morning.
Yet again, I *had* to change my blog look.  :-)   I had grown tired of the Background which I had made.  It was pretty at first, but began to look toooooo busssssssy.  What with my large Header pic, and Large 2nd Header pic, and large posted photos....   My blog looked ....  Tooooo, tooooo.   At first, I was going to go with just white.  But then, I tried for a soft Autumnal color...  Per usual, who knows how long it will be, till I want to change again?  :-)))))))  Fun, for me!
When "Uncle A." was a young lad, he delivered many a paper in his home town.  And they used to fold their papers, like this.  And do it fast!  ,-)  He hasn't seen a paper folded like this, in ages!   I had to take a pic of it.  To record it for posterity.  -grin-
A hard frost hit here, Fri. night into Sat. morning.  The Tuberous Begonias out front, have finally been "done in."  Time to move the Mums to out front.
 These darker Mums are still doing well.  But the beeeeeeautiful pink ones, are nearly all spent.  -pout-
Our leaves are becoming less and less.  I had to look-up for this shot.  ~~~~~   The yellow leaves are falling from the trees...  And blowing along in the air, like yellow snow flakes...
Yes, this pic is taken, looking straight down.  Not at a *wonky* angle.  But it still makes me feel a little *wooooooooozy,* looking at it  You too, Dear Reader?  If it's not just me, I must be more careful with my picture taking.  I certainly don't want to leave my Dear Readers, feeling dizzzzy  ,-)
♥ "Listen! the wind is rising, and the air is wild with......"
Yes Dear Ones, the sun shone here, on Thursday.  Doesn't "Uncle A's" Old Rose look lovely, in the sunlight?  Even if it is getting a bit wilted?  And there are two more buds, coming...  To the left...
The sun shone, and the sky was blue, and the clouds were white...  Above the changing trees...
"Listen!  the wind is rising,
and the air is wild with leaves,
We have had our summer evenings,
Now for October eves!"
(I love this quote!!!)
Out second oldest Granddaughter will be having a Birthday next week.  And since she is away at college, we put together a "care package."  This and that and the other thing.  And a "Pet Ghost."  ,-)))  I didn't find the "Pet Ghost" by myself.  Mary showed the one she got, and I thought is was so cute.  So I got one for "Grand" who had to leave her pet kitty-cat at home.  :-)
-chuckle-  Lots of sun-on-leaves-and-etc. pics.  Because it was so lovely, to actually see the sun, for a day.  I am missing "Golden October."  I am.  To really appreciate the changing color on the trees, etc.  But, we take a day, when we get a day.  :-)
And guess what?  At first, I wrote the first line up there...  Like this;  "Please excuse all the pics of sun on leaves..."  Yeah!  Just what I grumbled about, yesterday...   The fact that we tend to want to "apologize for" or "explain why", etc....  In our blogging.  But I caught myself!  I changed my words.  Instead of saying;  "Please excuse..." I just chuckled.  ♥      Yeaaaaaa me.  I'm getting there!!!
Those pretty little flowers, which I called a weed, but a Dear Reader told me the name of them...  And of course, I have forgotten it.  -sigh-
These turned leaves, are on trees, right outside our bedroom window.  They cast a glorious golden color into the room!  So beautiful...
